Probably better than when he gets into his car to drive around town. That is one of the most dangerous things people do, and we do it everyday several times without even thinking about it.

If I remember the numbers correctly, in Iraq there are approx

150,000 US troops, of which approx
3,000 have got killed, which my math says 1 in 50 killed or 2 percent, meaning 98 percent does not get killed.

However, for each who gets killed, some larger number gets injured, and I do not think they are releasing those figures.

Most of the casualities are from roadside bombs, and them riding in vehilces not well armored, and I don't understand why the technology cannot detect the explosive devices before the vehciles get close enough to be harmed.

The British protect the royal family train by having a bomb detection train going ahead of the people train ... why can't convoys of US troops have a robot truck go ahead of the real occupant trucks to be the target for the road side explosives.

Perhaps ignorant me should ask a question or two here about that.

it all depends on his rank and where they position him in Iraq. if its in a slightly lower hostile area his chances are better. if hes put were car bombs happen every two hours then not so good. there are many many factors that are involved. but the factor that counts most is the persons will to survive. a strong willed person can survive a lot longer than someone with a weak will

What do you mean by survive?? If you mean being killed I would say his odds of coming back alive are pretty good. However if you mean physical or psychological injuries, odds aren't so good for him avoiding those unfortunately.

Better than strolling around a few American cities after dark.
At least there he will be armed and have other armed men around him.
