People who are within hours or minutes from death almost feel hot to the touch because their blood has severely decreased it's circulation...blood begins to pool in the extremeties...the hands, legs, feet, and at the same time the body's temperature fights to elevate itself, and often results in a fever. Internally, the person who is about to die probably feels cold, due to the fever. After death, the person feels cold to the touch. All functions of the body have ceased.

The heart slows down before stopping entirely. As less oxygen goes to the brain, you lose consciousness. As less blood goes through the arteries you lose body heat. When your core temperature drops your body starts hoarding what little warmth you have by reducing circulation. The same things happen with hypothermia.

Since when do we feel cold when we are about to die? I have never run across that in all of my 33 years of geriatric nursing.

tis a cold universe and you are headed there that and metabolic rate is plummeting to zero which is what regulates body temp
and I reealllly wonder how some people get that BS"top contributor" moniker....I worked one summer in a nursing home and heard about people feeling cold as they were dying and verbalizing it!! when people started to complain more about how cold they were it usually meant they had circulatory issues prior to death, among other things....sheesh what a maroon!!

It would have to depend on how you were dying but I would guess that it had something to do with blood loss which is basically the body's heating system.
