You keep asking for proof from believers that He exists, and you say there is no proof- we say, there is by looking around you and seeing creation etc- and the biggest thing is faith.
Ok, my question to you is- WHAT IS THE BASIS AND PROOF THAT THERE IS NO GOD. I have never gotten a definitive answer from anyone. So I am guessing that it is by faith you don't believe. What if God does? Would that change how you live?

mr. danger and others- You know there is no God, well, I know there is- so can we both be right? What if I am wrong- I will live these years believing in God and desiring to live for Christ who died of me, and I will just die and nothing happens- but if I am right- you will live your short life here on earth, believing God does not exist and then spend eternity in hell.

Bond- Bond20 - I don't think you got my question- I was not asking for proof that God does not exist, so I can change my belief that He not only exists, but that Jesus is Lord of all.I asked it because most atheists say that there is proof that God doesn't exist- I have never had someone definitively to me- was just interested to see how they back up their "Faith" that there is no God. I will never change my belief because I personally know Him

you know you ask a question and still do not get a solid answer. some people claim to have read the bible but they seem to seriously lack understanding in the christian beliefs.... they ask how do you belive in something when there is no proof? then they do not understand faith.the webster definition is to belive undoubtedly or even if there is no evidence. obviously there is evidence of god but my point is that faith is trusting and believing in something wholeheartedly. in the movie the santa clause they say: seeing isnt believeing, BELIEVEING IS SEEING! this applies to god as well, you know? having faith. or take abraham for example. god promised abraham that descendents would come through his son isaac but then god told abraham to sacrifice isaac. abraham trusted and had faith in god and was about to do so and it says: genesis 22:11-13 "but the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven,"Abraham!Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied."Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said."Do not do anything to him.Now I know you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son." Abraham looked up and there in the thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son."

next they ask why is there suffering? in the beginning of time god created a perfect world free from sin, pain and suffering.. but god also gave man free will. and adam and eve chose to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. they went against gods wishes and now there is sin and sufffering. they had knowlegde of both good and evil which is shown when they felt shame when they realized they were naked. prior to they did not know evil only good. it is because of this that there is sin and suffering. no a loving god does not like to see suffering but he also gave man free will and it is not free will if he intervenes. i am not saying by choice people get cancer but all of this happened because adam and eve introduced evil into the world by eating the forbidden fruit. and futhermore the people that do get cures from cancer or wake up from comas, do they think it happened by chance? NO! god caused a miracle and intervened so that they have life.god does not always do so since he knows the master plan and when it is everyones time to come.he has reasons for his actions and once again it takes faith to trust and know that he would not lead us wrong.

now i know you know all this but hopefully a few nonbelivers will read it and better understand what and why we believe.

It is almost impossible to "prove" a negative. Suppose there is an invisible dragon in your garage. The dragon is immune to all methods of detection. Prove that he does not exist. You can not do it.

I do not believe in God because I have never encountered any evidence of supernatural power that would indicate his existence. I am also well schooled in the sciences and I understand that the complexity and beauty of nature is fully explainable by natural processes and not by design.

God is not necessary for morality or for understanding of the natural world. More often, belief in God is a hinderance to the aforementioned. If you believe in miracles then I have one simple challenge for you. Pray that a dead person be resurrected, or that an amputee regrows a limb, or that the Himalaya mountain range be moved to the United States. Why is it that we never hear about impossible miracles, only miracles that might have happened by chance according to natural laws. It might as well be that God just does not exist.

I can not disprove the existence of God. But the burden of proof is always on the believer. If I told you that there was a tea cup orbiting Mars, you would want proof, correct? If I told you that you could not disprove the assertion, that would not make it more probable, correct? Thus it is with God.

Update: Your comment about if you are wrong you lose nothing and if we are wrong we spend an eternity in hell is revealing. How exactly does one go from believing in God to believing in a very specific God that rewards you with heaven and punishes nonbelievers with hell? It seems that you carry a lot of cultural and psychological baggage.

Here's my reason for saying that I don't believe in God.

First, you have to define the term "God." The problem with most theists is that this term is a moving target.

In addition, because there is no evidence either for or against the existence of God, you cannot use deductive logic (a+b=c; therefore c-b=a). You can only reach a conclusion by inductive reasoning using the balance of evidence (90% of A is also B; C is B, so the chances are 90% that C is also A).

So to begin with, I will assert (and others may shoot this down) that the only RELEVANT definition of God states that GOD INTERVENES TO CIRCUMVENT NATURAL LAWS.

If God circumvents natural laws, then it becomes impossible to understand natural laws. All scientific findings would have to include the stipulation, "It is also possible that these results are an act of God, a miracle, thereby making our research meaningless."

However, we have been able to expand our knowledge of natural laws (evidenced by every appliance in your kitchen). Therefore, because the scientific method leads to applicable discoveries, and the likely conclusion is that God, at least the intervening kind, does not exist.

Additionally, if God is defined as all loving, all powerful, and all knowing, then it is impossible to explain suffering. Either God is not all loving (he acts sadistically), not all powerful (he cannot prevent suffering), or not all knowing (he created suffering by mistake because he didn't know the consequences of his actions). A God who is not all-loving, all-powerful or all-knowing is also not sufficient for the definition of God, because any God that fails to meet these criteria becomes bound by rules that are greater than God.

If God is bound by external rules and/or does not intervene in our existence, then God is either non-existent or irrelevant. The classic Bertrand Russell argument is that I cannot prove that a china teapot is orbiting the sun between the earth's orbit and Mars. But while I cannot prove this is not true, the evidence against it is compelling.

The evidence against God is equally compelling, and while it is not possible to prove beyond any doubt, it makes enormously more sense to live your life as if there were no God.

It is more compelling to me that humans have invented God (a) to help people deal with the pain and fear associated with death and loss, and (b) to reflect the thoughts of the ruling powers in a particular time. Humans are always searching for explanations. When none were found, it was the natural inclination to declare that the cause of the unexplained was "God" (or gods). As the faith grew, miracles (coincidences) and laws were ascribed to this Divinity, and an orthodoxy grew up around it.

Now it seems unhelpful to believe in such superstition. The only matters that aid in our ongoing well-being are work, location, health, sustenance, and pure, blind luck.

So that's why I don't believe God exists. And you know what? It's OK if you believe God exists. But what if God doesn't exist? Would that change the way that YOU live?

If I came to you and told you that there were invisible turtles living in your backyard, and you didn't believe me, would you say that it takes "faith" to not believe that there are invisible turtles in your backyard? Well, it's the same thing for your God. Your God is YOUR God. It has nothing to do with me. It's YOUR story, it's YOUR belief. No offense, but it sounds extremely arrogant to me to suggest that it takes faith on my part to not believe in YOUR invisible, magical being.
The person who is making the claim is the one who is responsible for providing proof. I am not making any claims. I am just not buying into the claims of others.

And if I found out tomorrow that God DOES exist, then I really wouldn't change the way I live. I live a good and decent life. I'm a faithful wife, a loving mother, a devoted daughter, sister, and friend. I don't drink or do drugs. I've never been arrested--I've never even had a speeding ticket. I contribute to charity, and I do volunteer work. The one and only thing that would change is I would go from not believing, to believing.

I say prove to me that there are no fairies and you will see that if something does not exist, it's hard to prove it's non-existence. You are the one that believes in a god. If something exists, it should be easy to prove it. Just saying that seeing beauty in nature is proof of god, doesn't cut it. It could also be proof that fairies did it with their little wands. Since there has never been any actual proof of any gods, yours included, then my only choice it to believe they do not exist...along with fairies, Santa, magic, angels, spirits, ghosts, devils, demons, heaven, hell and an afterlife.

I live my life in such a manner that I would have no need to change it if by some stretch of the imagination a god suddenly made an appearance. I'm a good, moral, loving person.

Well, you don't believe in "everything" that has no proof, do you? Neither do we! We're not all that different.

There is no proof that god DOES exist. I've studied the bible and found it to be full of flaws. Also, the logic of the bible doesn't hold up for me. It contradicts, not just reality, but itself. So that's the reason I reject "the Christian god." Why do I reject all of them? The same reason you reject all fairies. You see no evidence of them. IT doesn't take "faith" for you not to believe in fairies does it? IT doesn't take "faith" for me not to believe in god. For me the natural explanations of how this all came to be make much more sense.

No, it wouldn't change the way I live. I'm a pretty boring and moral person.

Listen my friend. I respect your belief. Keep it up. Why the hell you do you want people to proove something. Are you going to stop beleiving if at all somebody prooves contarary to your beleif.
Keep up your belief and dont bother of getting proof.
In a way I feel you are feeling very insecure regarding Gods existance and thats why you keep on raising questions about this.
Relax. You feel wonderful in what you believe, keep it up. Forget what others feel and believe. If people say god does not exist ,thats fine with them. In what way does it effect you? and if people say that god exists thats also fine, great.
Have belief in your trust and continue to trust your belief.

Its called Evolution. If god was real then technically our savior and Adam and Eve should look like this.

Christians keep saying that you can tell that God exists by looking all around you. Personally I think it would be wiser for Christians to say dont look all around you as fact is all I ever see around me is proof that God does not exist.

It is impossible to prove that something does not exist. The burden of proof is on you. By the way "Look around you!" does not count as evidence.
