Not to mention the stupid questions that ask why we don't drill for oil on the moon or if spacecraft create a hole in the ozone layer as they penetrate it.

Lol sentrynox, I wasn't talking about you. :)

No, "why is" is correct. The object here is "much." You would not say "much are." If you are going to correct me, you could at least make sure you're right.

Since you want to debate the intricacies of my grammar, I will ask you this:

Which sounds more correct, "There IS much to be debated" or "There ARE much to be debated"?

Thanks Patrick, for taking the time to point out all of my mistakes. I think you know that I meant grammar so bad you cannot understand the question. You were just being a pain.

This is the first time that I've "stepped into" this section, so I don't really know. But to be honest with you, this wouldn't be the only section with poor grammar and incoherent questions. There seem to be a lot of underage individuals who ask and answer questions on this site - that could be a reason for the poor grammar and incoherence. Many people don't seem to be aware that individuals under the age of 13 should not be asking/answering questions on this site.

I get what you mean, and I don't think you are being hypocritical to point that out when your grammar is less than perfect. I often disregard "good" grammar on purpose for stylistic purposes - to establish a more conversational tone. That being said, I'd say the two greatest reasons would be the marketing of AGW to youth and the fear-mongering aimed at the poorly-educated, superstitious type. The former is a shameless indoctrination that would make any fascist regime envious, and the latter harkens back to the time when shamans might point out an eclipse or comet as an omen of impending doom...usually due to the gods displeasure with the actions of man.

Many of the people are foreigners, doing the best they can with an unfamiliar language. There questions are better though. I like the questions from the people from India the best. Those people really think. The Americans just seem to parrot the government line on global warming. It's embarrassing.

The other thing is that with changes to the American school system, just like science, English is really no longer taught in the United States. It hasn't been for decades. That's sad. Many argue the English language is the human race's greatest invention. It's based on the idea that we can't think in more complex concepts than we can express. It's probably so.

Bad grammar, because its not my first language...
As for the strange questions, you should guess that many here are around 10y-old so don`t expect rocket science from them this early! As for the moon, we cannot find oil there, or any other planet in our solar system, but we can find a lot of diamonds over there... I guess De Beers will certainly reach for the sky once our diamonds are depleted here... (bunch of criminals those peoples actually)...
Edit: thats fine, I did not take it personal ;)

Just for the record, it should either be 'why IS there so MUCH', or 'why ARE there so MANY'. To say 'Why are there so MUCH', as suggested by other posters, would be incorrect.

Cat-face-girl is correct.

Of course you mean to say "Why ARE there so much bad grammar and so many..."

To answer your question: I don't know.

Good job, David. The object is plural. Public schools, I'm sure.

I'd rather have bad grammar and incoherent questions than bad science and political nonsense.
