I joined as a 17 year old and it was fine for me. They should finish High School and get permission from their parents before they go in.

That depends on why you are motivated to join. If you truly wish to join you should do so out of a desire to serve your country and be willing to be put in harm's way. Your chances of being deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan are high if you join. Are you okay with that?

The Army is an honorable institute. I have several family members who have served. But beware that Army recruiters are salespeople who will stretch the truth just like any other salesperson. Do not let them talk you into joining because of promised college tuition benefits or supposed career benefits. Those are over-rated unless your family has no other way to pay for college. In short, if you wish to join the Army does so because you truly want to be a part of the Army in its own right and not because you want to end up somewhere else.

People often quit school to join the military, and they often find themselves not mature or ready enough for the vast change in lifestyle. Obviously it doesn't happen in all cases, though it's always easier, safer and more practical to finish that last year or high school first.

Suppose someone quit school, joined the military, then found they disliked the military lifestyle... then what? Without high school, quite a few decent jobs and education courses are impossible unless they're willing to go back to school as an older student.

I joined in my junior year of High School. My mom had to sign for me.
The first thing I had to do was get my GED. Looking back I wish I'd stayed in school and graduated.
I was 17 at the time and hadn't matured near enough yet. I'd say the Army did make a man of me though. I just wasn't prepared for the head games yet.

I don't have a problem with war, sometimes, unfortunately, it may be necessary, but I do have a problem with this war. And if you joined now, chances are you're gonna get dragged. Don't waste your time for a governemt that only sees you as another troop. Go to college, get educated, that's the best thing any young person can do. Also, just how young people can't vote younger than 18, and drink younger than 21 cos their minds are too fragile, and could be easily influenced, they shouldn't be exposed to military propaganda and recruitment personell in high school without parental permission. Please, go to school. :)

It can be. After you finsh your 11th grade year you go to boot camp then have your senior year then when you graduate you go to job training. You'll have a job when you graduate and a way to pay for college if you want to go. I know you'll receive a lot of resitance and bad mouthing abou tit from people who don't know how things really are in the military or the army for that matter you should do what YOU want and tell other people thank you for your opinion now plz stop talking, Its a personal choice and one you should talk to your parents and try to get them to support you.

When you join your life belongs to the Army. If the reserve unit you join gets deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan you go with them and don't graduate from school. Back off, finish school and enlist when you graduate.

An idea for you to consider. I enlisted into the Army Ready Reserve, in 1955, when I was in the 11th grade, with the provision that I would finish high school, before active duty activation. I went to the 2 hour per week training / meetings as scheduled.
When I arrived at Ft. Chaffee,Ark. for basic, ( JULY,"56)one of the first questions was who had prior service, followed by who had had ready reserve traning, followed by national guard, followed --- --- ---. My having been in the Ready Reserves, AND THE TIME IN RANK (PVT E-2) GOT ME THROUGH, JUST A BIT NICER, AND LATER I RECEIVED MY "SKETER WINGS" BEFORE THE OTHERS !!!! JUST AN IDEA TO CONSIDER.
GOOOOOOD LUUUUUUCK and MAY THE BIG BOSS,ABOVE, SMILE UPON YOU and YOUR FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you can't until you finish High school. If you are seventeen, you can enlist into the DEP with your parents permission, not to exceed 12 months in duration. you would not be allowed to ship until after you get the HS diploma, however.
