She SAYS that I'm borderline eating disorder. I think she's being paranoid. I have been trying to lose weight, I'd say I consume about 700- 1000 calories a day. That's not bad is it? Cutting back a little isn't gonna hurt me right? I weigh, about 125 pounds right now, and I'm 5'5. I'd say I have a medium body frame, but I think I still have some weight to lose. I really wanna get down to maybe 110 pounds. She's making me go to counseling for a problem I don't even have!!!

Using regular BMI's (Body Mass Indicators) for a teenager doesn't take into account the fact that you're still growing.

This website does and it also provides graphs to show where your weight should be to be healthy.

I did a quick check for you, but not knowing your age, this is just a "guesstimate"

Let's say you're 16. With the info' you provided, the healthy weight would be 101 - 148 lbs.

Now, let's say you're 13. Using the same information, the healthy weight is between 92 & 136 lbs.

Share the website with your mother. You do need to eat at least 1200 calories every day just to maintain healthy body functions.

Teens do have the blessing of having naturally high metabolisms! :)

Rather than talking to a counselor, suggest to your mother a visit to the doctor's office instead so you both can discuss this with a professional a healthy weight for you.

What you are doing is unhealthy. You should really seek help because you are cutting too many calories for a healthy young woman. You should be eating atleast 1500 calories a day and you are eating half. Stopping the disorder now while it is early will help you to prevent a life of stress and pain which can be caused my a disease. 125 is a good weight. You are still small but you don't look like a stick. I was 114 in the 12th grade and about 5'4 and everyone told me that I looked sick. I thought I looked nice but when I look back at my pictures I look too small. It is better to love yourself at the weight you at then to continue to lose weight and never become satisfied.

YOU ARE AT THE PERFECT WEIGHT. You can make yourself EXTREMELY ILL eating only 700-1000 calories a day. Yes, you NEED to go to counseling sessions and learn how to 'see your body' as it is, not 'imagine' that you are fat. YOU DO HAVE AN EATING DISORDER. It's called 'anorexia' ... do what your mom says, and GET HELP NOW! Your mom is not at all 'paranoid' ... she loves you and wants you to get well.

You need to consume at least 1500 a day or you're going to gain the weight right back. Trust me, i've done it the healthy way and the unhealthy way and when I did it right, the weight stayed off.

Well one problem you certainly have is a denial problem. Eating that few calories a day is very dangerous. Your mom is right to be worried about you. Your body needs at least 1500 calories a day just to maintain itself. Listen to your mom, and stop trying to hurt yourself.

Dieting NEVER works, its one of the all-time worst cultural myths. Yes, millions of people CAN be wrong. The only healthy way to lose weight and keep it off is to SLOWLY reduce the amount you eat AND slowly increase your exercise load.
