Why do you need a "purpose"?
God is an outdated concept that is holding back human progress.

What I don't understand is why you think purpose absolutely has to entail a god?
Maybe there's more to life than we're seeing (I'm sure of that), but what does that have to do with god?
And what do you mean by "god"? Are you referring to Jesus' dad? or simply a conscious being intentionally hurling everything into existence? And what is your definition of existence? If existence didn't exist, wouldn't non-existence therefor exist, and thus existence?
But I entirely agree with you, we aren't here, alive, just to exist. We have to accept the reality that we don't fully understand our existence, and maybe that's the fun of it. For if you knew exactly what was going on, at all times, wouldn't you become bored? Wouldn't living life, knowing the true meaning of life, be like rewatching a movie you've already seen? Perhaps you'd still enjoy it, but surely it was better, more exciting, more unpredictable the first time around.
If you ever have doubt that this existence doesn't entail more than you're aware of, just look up at the stars at night and realize how small your planet is compared to the rest of the universe, how small you are, how small your brain is. Isn't it almost comical to think that your brain, something infinitesimally small compared to this universe, could even begin to understand it?
So yes, there is a lot more to be learned. And will it be learned on Y!A? I doubt it. But good luck with that.

First of all, i don't believe that there is any cosmic purpose. I don't see any reason why there should be, other than human self-centeredness.
However, humans have the unique (or near unique) ability to create purpose. Many people delegate this task to a preacher or a holy book. Atheists tend to find their own purpose.
I consider my purpose to make the world a better place, and to have fun doing it.

why not to just exist? I love just existing. And I don't know of any other reason for existing than itself, and making more people of my own species to have more fun on this lovely planet, Mother Earth. The Great Universal Spirit, if there is one, has not informed me of any particular reasons why I am here, so why guess? You waste too much time when you could be doing stuff like hugging your children and digging in your garden and swimming naked off the coast of Costa Rica.
Are you getting my meaning here?
Bright Blessings!

We each determine our own purpose. My purpose is to live a full life, provide for the education of my children and the welfare of my family, while trying to make this planet a little better off than when I was born. No god needed.
What is your purpose?

We must have a purpose? My purpose is to avoid the Big Sky Chief and other fictional characters.

why not to just exist? i can understand wanting to believe in a higher purpose, i just don't see any reason to suppose that there actually is one. we make our own purpose, that's sufficient for me.

Exactly what purpose does your god give us to exist?

You make your own purpose. If your purpose is to kiss up to an invisible skyman that's ok but I have made a different purpose of my life.
