he's very interested in you, but is trying to be ultra-cool about it and not seem like he's too into you. But he is. The 'where's your boyfriend comment' is to jokingly act like he just assumes you have one, for two reasons: 1) to actually find out if you do have a boyfrined, and 2) by openly saying it he's acting like he's fine if you're not available. But he IS VERY interested in you. He seems like he has a hard time being open about what he feels. Could be bc it's a work environment. Anyway, if you like him, just joke back about your 'boyfrined', then tell him you're kidding, that you don't have one. Say 'no one will ask me out these days...' and I bet he does something that he thinks is 'smooth' that is really just asking you out.

That sounds like a really sly way of trying to determine your marital status. By doing so in a joking manner, even if he were to be "rejected", so to say, he would always be able to say " I was only kidding." It's a common defense mechanism we as humans utilize when encountering members of the opposite sex. If you like the guy, let him know that you're single so that he can take the next step in getting to know you in a more romantic way.

I dont mean to offend but when people ask questions like this it makes them seem like kids. If youre old enough to be working youre old enough to figure out he was just being nice and joking around with you. Dont read more into it than you should. If you still "need to know why" ask him.

if it was just in a joking way, leave it alone, the moment has passed, but if he does something like that again and you're interested, find a cute flirty way to let him know you don't have one, or if you do have a bf (or if you're not interested you can still use this as away to get your point across) politely tell him he's at
(blah blah blah)

Its an opening to see if you are single. I told my wife when we worked together"before we were married or knew each other" That if she kept bring me stuff to put away she would owe me a beer. Then I ended it with if you BF doesn't mind. She said I don't have a bf.
That day allowed me the confidence to pursue her. A month later we kissed and moved on.

He is a bit of a coward (and I don't mean that in a bad way), and afraid of the reject, so he was "testing" the waters so to speak. If you are interested, you may need to let him know with more than a hint.

One quick tip... men don't take hints very well.

usually when someone asks or implies if you have a significant other it means that they are interested in you and want to know if you are free so that they cant pursue you...tell him your single if you are interested in him...if not then just go on letting him think that you are....he probably thinks you have a boyfriend because you didn't reply and just giggled at him...

Just talk to him. He is just a person. He may or may not be interested. However, if you like him, do a little flirting and tell him you do not have a boyfriend. Have fun and relax.

tend to one he's playing around, or trying to casually inquire as to your current relationship status. Next time, granted your single, you should respond with something like, "why i'm looking at him *look at your co-worker and smile, then laugh*" See where that takes you...
