He is an a** because he can get away with it. And the fact that he is a great driver doesn't hurt either. Anyone who reads any of my answers or questions knows I am a Gordon fan, but you can't deny that Stewart is 20th on the ALL TIME win list and needs only a couple more to move up to 19th. And among active drivers, Stewart is 4th on the win list. Just a few more wins and he will be 2nd. And he has two championships. And the way Stewart finishes strong the last 10 races.... he has a great chance to win several more as long as he makes the chase every year. Not bad... to be 2nd on the Active Driver win list and have 2 championships in only 9 years... He still has 10-15 years to try and catch Gordon. (Don't think that will happen though since Gordon will possibly win another championship or two himself and win another 20-30 races before he retires putting Gordon 3rd, maybe even 2nd, on the ALL TIME win list).
For the record.... Stewart is one of my top 5 most hated list... but damn, I cannot ignore the fact he is one hell of a driver!
And one final note..... Stewart is always saying "He is accessible"... If you really think he is that tough, then you must think Erkel is the average guy. Tony Stewart couldn't kick my grandmother's ***... if he is really that accessible, let me have a crack at him. Even as a woman, I don't think I would even break a sweat. Stewart knows that most drivers are not going to get fined by NASCAR or risk charges against them for putting STEWART in the wall without the race car.

I think thats what makes him great for NASCAR. You need a character like that on the track to keep from getting bored by the other drivers. Im not much of a fan of him but Im glad hes in the sport to keep things interesting.

I feel he is a real man's man! He don't take no crud from anyone, and if you look back that is the way that is the way men used to be, and some out there may still be and of course they are not normal, or they have a short fuse, I feel he has a fine fuse. Think about how much crud he has to put up with b4 he breaks! You are going 180 or so mph and someone bangs into you, yeah your going to be mad! Simple as that! He is s3xy and I feel that is women of today need and want, a natural real Dominant man. One who don't take no crud from anyone!

One season I think Stewart isn't an ahole due to the fact he doesn't act like one. Then the next season he acts like an ahole, take for example this season. I must admit Stewart is a good driver and wants to win, but when he MOUTHS off and it is shot at a team driver he is an ahole. I think coach Gibbs showed both Deny and Tony who runs the show. I also admit he is not the only driver acting like and ahole.
As far as ESPNNEWS, you can put your money on any clip of a driver that gets angry or makes a stupid comment, that is the clip ESPNNEWS will live on for that week.

I don't think he an ****** at all. He is a talented driver who races very hard. He reminds me of a lot of earlier drivers Petty, Pearson, Bobby Allison, etc. These guys were always outspoken about the things they were passionate about. They all also can drive the hell out of race car.
Diane, I agree with Beth, you story was very nice.

Although he has a short fuse, he is a really sweet guy and is always donating tons of money in order to help others. You just never hear about that side of him. He started out in Indiana and drove for my brother, Larry (now deceased). Tony lived with my brother and his wife for about six months. When Larry passed away, Tony was his pallbearer and then three weeks later when our dad passed away, Tony stopped whatever was going on in his life and came back again. After the funeral, he came down to our house and was in the living room. Dad's bed had been moved into the living room when he was sick. I asked Tony if he and another fellow would mind taking the bed apart and taking it out to the garage so Mom wouldn't have to look at it after everyone had gone home. They jumped right up and took the bed out. You couldn't ask for anyone better than that. As far as his temper, he has always been a little bit on the feisty side but he is one great racer. I am sure that Dad and Larry are looking down, shaking their heads with smiles on their faces, when he has a tantrum, but proud as hell of Tony and where he is today. I hope this helps.

Tony is cut out of the same mold as the "ironman drivers" of the 60's and 70's.People like Curtis Turner,Darrell Deringer-Junior Johnson-Bobby Allison.THey were vocal and backed it up.
Keep it up Tony.

Tony Stewart in my mind is to NASCAR what Barry Bonds is to baseball. There's no denying legimate greatness. In the case of Stewart, the guy runs hard and runs well no matter what he's doing. Heck- he could even win racing 50cc mini bikes.
Like Bonds, the personality gets in the way. At least in Tony's case, you can point to his generosity off the track and his passion for the sport.
I just think in the heat of the battle, his temper gets to him and he does monstrously stupid things. Smoke also seems to have this trouble with thinking he's the spokesman for the drivers and he's the self-appointed agent to fix things and speak out. you can't fault his honesty, but man he just never shuts up!
******....nah. He ain't one of my favorites though for the reasons you mentioned. He needs to take lessons in control from Mark Martin.

im not a tony fan either. but before you accuse you need to get your facts straight. hes just an old-school racer, and hes frustrated by all of nascars bull___ rules. but yeah, i know what you mean. its seems like he IS always mouthing off about something.
Im getting off subject here, but i think its kinda funny that just because the fatty loses a couple pounds, that hes Subways new spokesman lol. he could probably lose another pound if he would shave every once in awhile
