I've never known who wrote the book of revelations, and none of the people I currently know know who wrote the book. To me, it would seem that people join religions to help with sins of the past and on how to embrace the future. And since revelations paints a pretty stark picture of a not-so-gloomy future, I would think that if someone knew who wrote the book of revelations, we can study that author's life to find out more about that person, and maybe the events in their own life that led up to the writing of that very important book.

God is the author. John wrote it down.

John, the Beloved wrote the book while he was held prisoner in the island of Patmos. The author of the book, John, was one of Jesus' disciples. He walked side by side with Christ for the three years Jesus did his ministry on earth (hence the nickname 'Beloved'). While writing the book, John is said to have been inspired and overcome with multiple visions of what the future would be like and what would happen. And not surprisingly, these things have been and are already being fulfilled.
Why isnt it more publicly known? Because it is int he Bible, and most people, believe it or not, take it for granted. They dont take a time out to study and analyze the Word. People find it very difficult to believe in something they cannot prove. There is, unfortunately, a lack of faith. And thsi lack of faith, ironically, is the result of not reading the Bible, God's Word.
If you like the book of Revelations you should also try reading the book of Daniel, because they are closely linked and Daniel has amazing things that he prophesized about and have already come true in history. Very interesting stuff. They're like a continuation of each other, actually. Hope this has answered your question, or at least part of it!

Revelation 1:1,4,9 and 22:8 specifically identify the author of the Book of Revelation as the Apostle John.

Date of Writing: The Book of Revelation was likely written between 90 and 95 A.D.

Purpose of Writing: The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave John to show his servants what must soon take place. This book is filled with mysteries and things to come. It is the final warning that the world will surely end and judgment will be certain. It gives us a tiny glimpse of Heaven and all of the glories awaiting we who keep our robes white. Revelation takes us through the great tribulation with all the woes and the final fire that all unbelievers will face for eternity. The book reiterates the fall of Satan and the doom he and his angels are bound for. We are shown the duties of all creatures and angels of heaven and the promises of the saints that will live forever and ever with Jesus in the New Jerusalem. I, like John, cannot find the words to describe what I read in the book of Revelation.

The Revelation is lavish in colorful descriptions of the visions which proclaim for us the Last Days before Christ’s return and the ushering in of the new Heaven and new earth. The Revelation reveals the series of devastations poured out upon the earth; the mark of the beast, “666”; the climatic battle of Armageddon; the binding of Satan; the reign of the Lord; the Great White Throne Judgment; and the nature of the eternal city of God. Prophecies concerning Jesus Christ are fulfilled and a concluding call to His Lordship assures us that He will soon return.

Most people who I have either read or talked to about it think that a man named John wrote it. He was the same John who wrote the Gospel of John, and the three Epistles that bear his name.

One thing I might add is that John on the latter writings may have had a scribe to write what he said. As it has been explained to me, John was not a good writer of Greek. And to some, that explains why while John was in exile on an island, he wrote Revelation himself. The Greek was apparently not proper for the time. They say that it was poorly written.

I believe in what the Book has to say. It ties into the rest of the Bible in ingenious ways. I figure that it had to be inspired for it to use the prophecies in the Old Testament so well, along with the prophecies that Jesus told about, and most other writers in the New Testament.

John the apostle wrote it around 95 AD. He was exiled by Domitian, the Roman Emperor to the Island of Patmos for John's testimony of Jesus. As the end times draw close, more and more people are studying Revelation. Some churches, preachers only preach the good news and leave out the warnings. These candy preachers focus on filling their pews rather than filling souls the whole truth of God's Word. It is a facinating book and is open for all to read with God's promise of a blessing to those who read it and adhere to His Word. God bless

The youngest of the Apostles, John, wrote this Book. He was a follower of Christ...in fact, he loved Jesus dearly!

John was banished to the Isle of Patmos, which in those days, was an island for prisoners and such. He preached and converted many while there. However, the Lord spoke to John and told him to write all that he saw and all that he heard.

In visions, John saw many things. The reason we study that Book so well is because much of it is prophecy...of things to come.

The interest in this Book has increased as the prophecies are being fulfilled. It is amazing the accuracy of his "seeings" and what we see today! Examples of such : "There will be an explosion of knowledge like never before." TRUE, we live in a very fast paced lifestyle! He said that man would run to and fro! Again, lifestyles are way too fast! There will be wars and rumors of wars....that's a fact at the moment! And, they go on and on and on!

My Dad was a minister and died when I was but, sixteen. Much of what my Dad studied in this Book, he could not understand! Why? Because, such things john described had not come to fruition while he was living. However, I have lived long enough to be able to understand and name the items my Dad had no clue would ever exist!

It is a wise thing to study this Book and the Book of Daniel as well.

Best to you.

Revelaltions was written by
John the Beloved. This was the young deciple who was very close to Jesus, and in fact, rested his head on Jesus' chest at he ate. He was probably a young teen then.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think that this John was the last of the Apostles to be
martyred, except John was
exiled instead, and was given
these many divine revelations
to pass on to us.
One must be careful when
being taught this book because I have found over many years that many "teachers" have interpreted these scriptures in very different ways. It is my belief that the Holy Spirit will open up the truth of Revelations as the seeker honestly studies.

The Apostle John wrote the book of Revelation, inspired by God. He had a vision while he was imprisoned on the Island of Patmos. And he talks about being "in the Spirit"
Sadly, many churches don't preach about Revelation. My church when I was growing up never did. It is essential to our faith, in that it gives us instuction, and warnings about the future of the earth and mankind. It is about Jesus' Second Coming, and the Rapture, the Antichrist, and also Jesus' directions to the churches. It contains tons of prophecy. I read it all the time, and study it.

Im not worried about it, its impossible for anyone to predict when he will come because of this scripture: "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[a] but only the Father. 37As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. 42"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. If not even the angels know, how can any of us know? If i were you i wouldt care
