Scatological humor has been around since the ancient Greeks. Now that you mention it the modern Greeks seem to be pretty good at it too. :) Yes it's immature, but in this world if it makes you laugh for a time, its good in my book. :)

I've never understood why people find farts hilarious. It sounds like a gross obsession and yes, I would consider the person very immature. The thought of someone finding it humorous to fart in someone's face would turn me away...far away from this person. If it's someone you're planning on dating, or are dating, I would find this as a major red flag to go find someone else!

I think it gross and childish, as well. However, many societies throughout the history of the world have taken great delight in "bathroom humor" and I doubt it is going away. Since this isn't a life or death matter, and you probably aren't going to change anyone, perhaps we just need to go with the flow and allow the FEW who rejoice in farting in public to enjoy their fun; maybe even laugh a little if it is in someone else' face. ha ha

I always get cracked up when people fart because usually hey look all around trying to pretend they didn't har anything it's usually a dead give away that they are he one who did it. My dad is 43 and he farts all the time and thinks it's hilarious so no, I don't think people ever outgrowing thinking it's funny. I'm not grossed out but the smells can be atrocious and I'd rather they take it outside then leave a stink in the house.

Just guessing that your gaseous friend is a guy?! At 26, it is immature - it's just the scale that varies. If they are "playing around" with other like-minded/bottomed individuals, and can restrain themselves when around other people for whom it is offensive, namely you, then let them be immature. If, however, they think it's funny to pass gas in your face or in front of you, then it is beyond immature fun and bordering on abuse.

the bottom line is(no pun intended), is that breaking wind is a goofy sound. Humorous by some, it is elevated by a good sense of timing.
and yes it can be hilarious

that is some messed up sense of humor. everyone farts, get over it. but i guess that would be immature in a way, i don't think farting is something that is down right hilarious. but whatever.

I am sure the person you are referring to is a man. It is gross and disgusting, but I know middle aged men who still find this hilarious. Go figure. So, don't expect him to grow out of it.
It does seem like they would have figured out that we (women) don't like it or think it is particularly funny.

For me it is funny because it can be embarassing. I am not in a guys head, but I know a lot of guys who find it funny, and not because they are embarassed. That alone cannot make a person immature.
