Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to the call. The house was very dark so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a 3-yr old girl to hold a flashlight high over her mommy so he could see while he helped deliver the baby.
Very diligently, Kathleen did as she was asked. Heidi pushed and pushed and after a little while, Connor was born. The paramedic lifted him by his little feet and spanked him on his bottom. Connor began to cry.
The paramedic then thanked Kathleen for her help and asked the wide-eyed 3-yr old what she thought about what she had just witnessed.
Kathleen quickly responded, "He shouldn't have crawled in there in the first place ......smack his BUTT again!"

HaHa I like the joke, that is easier than dealing with the real stuff. But for the real issue, no I am not personally in favor that children be apart of the process watching their mother deliver the sibling. Nothing against anyone else's point of view, that would be my decision. I think kids are best left in the waiting room. Great question.

That is a VERY funny story. But to answer your question, it really depends on the age and level of understanding of the child. My six-year old wanted to watch and felt he understood everything because I explained it to him, but my 8-year old didn't want to watch because I explained it to her (although she has a great relationship with the baby). I would not expect a 3-year old to understand the process at all, unless some simple explanation had been given beforehand. Otherwise, children fill in the blanks themselves.
