BRY7JOSH: I too stay up all night making home made cards for my loved ones. I've more stickers, gel pens and glitter glue than you can imagine! :-)

I don't sleep, I do think sleep is a waste of time, I also understand that it is the most important part of your day. Unfortunately the way my life works I don't have enough hours in a day and as such sleep, which is a dreadful experience for me, loses out. Now I become incoherant all to often and I can't remember things from one second to the next, literally. I raise 3 kids, work full time and school full time, there are two days a week I am awake almost 24 straight hours every week, and you know what, when I get home I still can't sleep.

That being said, there is a genuine disorder called sleep fear or somnophobia.

"Defined as "a persistent, abnormal, and unwarranted fear of sleep", each year this surprisingly common phobia causes countless people needless distress. ,,,,,Known by a number of names - Somniphobia and Fear of Sleep being the most common - the problem often significantly impacts the quality of life. It can cause panic attacks and keep people apart from loved ones and business associates. Symptoms typically include shortness of breath, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and overall feelings of dread, although everyone experiences sleep fear in their own way and may have different symptoms"

I think it has different sources for everyone, but in my case, it is that I have more to get done and I am wasting my time laying there, and yes, I have been known to have full blown panic attacks thinking about having to go to sleep.

If you are asking if people feel that way? Some do.

If on the other hand you are asking, is that normal? No.

In fact, the lack of sleep may lead to the fear that sleep is wasting away your life.

Lay off the ice cream, it may be giving you delusions of grandeur.

Shift to Ben and Jerry's. You may gain a few pounds, but, you may sleep better.

The problem is that the brain does not know what the heart and the lungs need to maintain the brain's functioning. At least not at first. If you keep draining the brain of its energy then eventually it will shut down to charge itself. Call it exhaustion.

But as the brain recharges, The heart and lungs work overtime trying to supply blood and oxygen throughout your body. Basically your blood pressure will be terrible

So yes you can feel the way you describe but if left uncheck this could lead to serious bodily malfunctions.

My record is five and a half days though without sleep and in the final moments before I passed out for a day and a half I nearly crashed the car and I could feel all my senses vibrating as I realized my blood pressure was at the danger zone. When I woke up my body still felt like it had been through a marathon and the vibration was replaced with a dull silence.

Just a little insight on been there done that.

I wouldn't recommend the experience to others. It feels like you tiny wind up motor is about to die and you with it.

So go get some Haagendaus and go to bed.

Not here! I get 5 hours of sleep a night during week days. Sometimes 6, but I want to sound macho. Weekends the alarm gets pummeled! I sleep until my body says "get up". (or until an arm slides across my chest) Getting steamy! Anyway, sleep is only a tool to enhance the work day. More sleep better quality work, less sleep more quantity of work. By the end of the day I know which is needed for the next day. Sleep is a tool.

Yes! I have it! I hate sleeping and wasting that time on doing nothing in my life. Oh yeah I know we have to sleep but we do not need as much as some people think. I survive and do well on 4 to 5 hours a night! Thats all I sleep because I fear wasting my life on it! Some nights I don't even go to sleep I spend my time on here, or on the other 4 websites that i'm on or I write poetry, read books or write my family and friends! Everyone loves getting cards from me and it makes me happy that it cheers them up, in doing so, it cheers me up! So good luck not sleeping so much! Life goes to fast, as it is, without sleeping it away! hugs! Von

Yeah sleeping does waste a 1/3 of our life which is a lot if you think about it but I just can't seem to get enough of it!! Wish we didn't need so much sleep every day to function because just think of what else you could accomplish with those hours you don't have. Oh well. Yawn.
