Not usually. Vow renewals are much smaller than actual weddings and while the couple might invite guests, they don't go through the entire ceremony.

My husband and I are renewing our vows and we have made the decision to have our children as our attendants. He is also having his cousin, who is also his best friend, stand for him because he means so much to my husband (and since we never had a "real" wedding the first time around he didn't get the chance to express this to his cousin).
Tradition says no attendants for a renewal but you can do it anyway you want... you're paying for it this time around! :-)

Renewal ceremonies used to be for old couples celebrating their 50th anniversary or something, which was cute. The new trend of people doing it on their 5th, 10th, (my God I've read about people doing it on their 2nd on here!) is so wrong. I just don't think it's appropriate (not sure why I hate the idea so much) kind of goes along with our culture of frequent divorce I guess somehow.

No. A renewal of vows is just you and your husband. No maids needed.

I have been to a couple of vow renewal ceremonies and they had bridesmaids, groomsmen, singers and the whole wedding party.

Not in a traditional sense. I have seen them use as brides maids their kids.

No, it's NOT "another wedding". It's just a simple ceremony, with just the couple getting a blessing, basically. The couple just wears dress clothes, not wedding attire. However, at the party after, sometimes they will recognize those who were in their original wedding party.

Perhaps children, siblings, or extremely close friends can stand in a bridal party, but the whole even should be as small as possible. I kind of like the idea of the eldest son "giving the bride away", but that's me.

Not usually. These are generally more intimate, informal gatherings with less pressure on all involved.
