One from a yard sale or an auto wrecking yard. Before they crush cars they generally salvage all the good stuff.

Apart from the head unit, which must have RCA preamp out, I'd look for a four-channel amp, preferably one that has high-pass and low-pass filters, and can be bridged. Use two channels for the main speakers, which should be 2 or 3 way 6" to 6x9 or whatever will fit in the stock locations. Bridge the other two channels (if possible) into a 10" or 12" sub in a sealed or vented box; get the recommended box design from the manufacturer's web site. (If the amp doesn't have high-pass and low-pass filters, look for a separate electronic crossover. This will send just the bass to the subwoofer, and send everything else to the smaller speakers.

The only brand I would definitely avoid is Pyramid, unless it's free. With two different products, what was inside did not come close to the specifications on the package or in the manual.
