I react with a quiet flinch. It is like someone using the Lord's name in vain. It is like people are using God's name in vain.
It has become a generic form of an exclamation. It seems to be prevalent amongst the teenage girls more than anywhere else. Maybe that's because they use a higher pitched voice and I only notice it more with them, rather than the low pitch of a muttering male. The girls seem to 'squeal' it.
Very few consider "God" ...'their god'! So the term has become an exclamation mark for darn near anything.

what is the inflection?
I just love it when people say "you shouldn't take the LORDs name in vain". Sorry, god, is a title not a name.
When will it be when all people learn the name of God?
(clue, you can find it easily in the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance.
Unfortunately you will not find it in many modern Bible translations. Why? Because at some point in Bible history, the Christians, decided to follow the superstitions of the Jews, and remove the name of God from the Bible. Except in exactly four places. Yet, since this facthas been made known, the publishers on the "New" King James Version, have completely removed the name of the author, from his book.

It's a common phrase, I doubt god would really be so arrogant as to waste any time even noticing or being offended by it. I usually add a bunch of extra four letter words into it, no lighting has ever struck me, nor do I think it ever will.

Most of the time it comes from a drama queen, in which case I usually roll my eyes.

It's just a figure of speech. My mother used to say it in the 70s, because she didn't want to warp my fragile little mind.

"What??"

That is how I react. It takes a lot more than that to offend me, and I have a feeling that takes a lot more than that to offend a deity who has existed since before the beginning of time.

I don't like it, but I can't say I've never said it. What I really hate is how the Lord's name is said in vain constantly in movies nowadays. THAT infuriates me.

I just say, "he's my god too, don't be so selfish" (Even though I really don't believe in him), and my boyfriend says"I didn't know you would recognize me without my sandles on"
