I am going through a lot but I am kind of doubting my faith and everything because of going through divorce, trying to find out who I am, and everything. I feel that I don't know who I am anymore and also feel like part of me is dead spiritually because I gave in to my ex-husband after a little over a month of marriage and then left me on Sept 11 2006 (I was very sick before and after marriage). I would love to doing thing like I used to do before I got married but I can't seem to like do what I used to do but always want to do something new and enjoy life. But with Christ, I really want to renewal my faith in Him and make up the life that I have been missing for long time. I am glad that one of my good old friend encourage me to go back to church. I think he is worry about me because of I am doubting my belief and offered me a biblestudy with him. How can I start renewal my faith and what are some good Bible verses? All Christian faiths are welcome to pinch in. And pray for me. Thanks

God bless you, honey, I know what you mean about wanting to renew your faith. Sometimes we have to just flat out BELIEVE, even if we don't see it, even if we don't feel it, and in the end we will know Romans 8:28 to be true:

For ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD to those who love God, who are the called according to His purpose."

Don't give up.

I'm sorry you are going through such a hard time now, but remember it is for a season. Your joy will return eventually. One way to help you along is get into a support group through your church or another church with like beliefs. A Singles Sunday School class or a Singles Bible study group will help tremendously. It will support your faith and your spirit. If you can't find one locally go to your pastor or some counsellor in a large church for help. You need a confidant and a spiritual partner to pray with you and encourage you. Divorce is a tramatic experience even under the best circumstances. You don't say if there are children involved, but if there are, it's even worse for them than either partner and they will benefit from a good counsellor also.
This will affect you for a long time, but you don't have to let it change the person you are inside. God can bring you through this a better person. I know He did for me when I went through divorce. In fact, it led to my personal salvation and my ex-husbands and we remarried with Christ at the head of our union. We've been married 39 years now. I can testify that God can restore your joy and put your life back together. One thing I did when I went through the divorce was to buy a Bible and begin to read in it every spare moment. If you seek God out, He will reveal Himself to you.......even in this turmoil. I will pray for you and ask God to do that very thing. I pray He will open up a door where you will find the human and spiritual support you need right now. He only wants to care for you and love you through your hurt. May He be with you.

All I can tell you is sometimes the Bible gets boring because we don't take the time to understand it. But in order to relieve that, you should get into the HISTORY of the biblical times. I'd start off with Halley's Bible Handbook. It gives a brief overview of both Testaments as well as archaeological discoveries. And it even covers "Church History" (i.e. "The Dark Ages") It's really a fascinating book and I'd recommend it to any person who's trying to "rebuild faith."

Try this, Ami. And remember prayer restores faith.
Psalms 34:19
"Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivereth him out of them all."
And, Psalms 31:24
"Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord"
Blessings..

If your guy friend wants to do a bible study with only you and him that is inappropriate- he's hitting on you. For scripture I like Matt ch 5,6. &7.

If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
- John 5:31

I am one that bear witness of myself...
- John 8:18
[Jesus was the speaker in both of these quotes]

Why is keeping faith in a religion based on an evil, self-contradictory book like this worthwhile?

Numbers 31:17, 40
[Verse 17, Moses says:] "Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves."

[Verse 40:] The persons [women who had not known man by lying with him] were sixteen thousand, of which the Lord's tribute was thirty-two persons

Deuteronomy 21:18-21

If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father; or the voice of his mother, and, though they chastise him, will not give heed to them, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, and they shall say to the elders of his city, "This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard." Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones; so you shall purge the evil from your midst; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

From there Elisha went up to Bethel. While he was on his way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him. "Go up baldhead," they shouted, "go up baldhead!" The prophet turned and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two shebears came out of the woods and tore forty two of the children to pieces. (2 Kings 2:23-24 NAB)
