I just noticed that my cat's paw is swollen and has a white lump on it (in the ankle area). Other than that, I see no injury (i.e. no scratch, puncture, etc). She is putting some weight on it but is not walking completely normal. Any ideas? Obviously, I am taking her to the vet first thing in the morning but is there anything I can do to make her comfortable until then?

Hi there! If you have a blanket, see if she will curl up with you on the couch, floor, or even your bed. Treat her for this one night. This way you can be sure she isn't prowling around or jumping off anything high without your knowing it...unless you can put her somewhere else that doesn't have any counters or anything. You don't want her to hop up or down and have her mess it up worse. Or I hate to be a meanie, and she may meow half the night, but if worse comes to worse, you may have to put her in her cat carrier and maybe keep her in your bed with you so she can see you that way. At least she wouldn't cause harm to herself. Just some ideas for you to think about...good luck with your kitty, I hope everything goes well at the vets tomorrow, and give her a pet for me!!!

Well, don't shower her with pitiful talk or you will confirm that there is something she should be crying about. This really came out sounding cold but just remember that you must think like an intelligent human being and mostly observe the cat to see if she is holding the paw up, licking it, moaning, panting or not eating. If so, please take her to an after hours pet hospital and don't wait for a vet appt. I did that with my cat and he almost lost a leg due to an ABSCESS.He still has a limp to this day... also, do not give the kitty a human or dog medicine with seeing a doctor first.

It's possibly an abscess developing or she knocked it pretty badly on something. It should be ok till the vet checkup, they'll be able to determine what it is then. Don't encourage her to do any stairs or jumping or climbing tonight, of course. And let her just say quiet if she wants. She'll know how much she feels she can move around.

This happened to my cat a while back. Turns out that she had swatted at a wasp that had gotten inside through my fireplace and gotten stung. Cats tend to swat at flying or moving things such as bees or spiders. Just give her some extra attention until you can get her to the vet. She should be fine.

sounds like an abscess.
Make sure she has a really comfortable bed to sleep on.
Keep food and especially water near to keep walks short.
Keep litter box close. Check her regularly while you're awake.
Keep her in one room.
