Most cats since it's their instinct to hunt to eat. That's hard-coded.

Calico is a coat color. Persians can't smell very well because of their deformed noses.

ANY cat who has a hunting instinct is a very good hunter with practice. The mother cat usually has to teach kittens how to kill what they catch, but most cats can catch prey and think it's exciting. It's the live mouse released into the house by them that is NOT the kind of excitement we like.

I don't think it's a breed-specific behavior. I remember reading somewhere that any cat has the potential to be an effective hunter (meaning that they actually kill what they attack and don't just play with it), but only if the cat's mother exposed them to live prey at an early age.

Though this sounds like a "duh!" kind of answer, the best cat to get would be a feral one that lives out in the country, a common "barn cat."

Ask a farmer if they want to be rid of some feral cats (many farmers have them around in their barns because mice and other rodents hide there), and, if he allows you to catch one, set out a live trap with an open can of wet cat food to entice them in. A live trap, when triggered, will cause a door to be shut behind the cat to prevent its escape from the cage, but will not harm the cat in any way.

All cats are instinctual hunters...has nothing to do with breed or color. Do you have a mouse problem? Keep in mind your cat will not ONLY kill what you want it to kill. Cats are responsible for the deaths of millions of migratory birds each year which is affecting their populations to the point of causing entire species to be in decline.

Calico, and playfull cats, and should do. The way you get them to hunt is to not feed them a ton of food, just enough to keep them healthy and not skiny.

Farm cats. They have mixed parentage, but the moms teach the babies how to hunt when it's weaning time.
