I had a root canal done just over a year ago. Today I felt up there and the whole filling is gone. I have heard of the cracking before, but is it common for them to totally fall out? Do I have any recourse with my dentist? I do not eat nuts or peanuts.

This was the temporary one. I can't afford to get the permenant one yet. Even with insurance it is outlandish!

um... if it was a temporary filling... it is meant to seal the root canal for about 2 weeks or a month at the most. you should definately have gone back to the dentist to finish the procedure. Now that the filling has fallen out, you are allowing bacteria to re-enter the root canal and you can end up with an abscess at the root. Putting off treatment may even cause you to have to have the entire tooth extracted. Go back to the dentist now and see what they say. If you think treatment is too expensive, you might be able to make payments. If there is a local dental school, they often offer work for a discounted rate.

HELLO TERRI,
WAS THIS A PERMANENT FILLING OR A TEMPORARY PLACED AFTER THE ROOT CANAL?
THE ROOT CANALED TOOTH WILL NEED A CROWN.
SEE A DENTIST.
