yea, go to www.pbteen.com
they have great stuff and great ideas.
you can also go to target and other places like that for cheaper stuff

here's my favorite idea for a girl room:
try doing a contemporary bedroom with lots of blues and greens and a retro feel. have something to reflect her personality and include space to do homework, entertain friends and showcase her trophies and awards.

use a beautiful periwinkle blue for the walls, with a funky chartreuse color accenting the wall space around the windows. The trim painted with a crisp white, with all the colors combining to give the room a fun, high-energy feeling.
or use those 3 colors any way you want. those colors are a great combo.

add a white vanity with lots of space for makeup and other paraphernalia. have one with the top being glass, which does double duty by protecting the surface while displaying some of her award ribbons underneath OR pictures of friends.

a nice study space can be used with a simple desk.

throw pillows on the bed with the color scheme of blue, chartreuse and white really pull the room together. A coffee table in front of the bed completes the "lounge area" and provides a convenient place for magazines, books and snacks, etc. the sheets can be white, or a pale green or blue or cream or white. if you have blank walls, put in a book shelf or a storage cabinet for dance/sports stuff or books.

this hip color scheme, has the room really shed that little-girl feeling. it's more marture than a "totally pink" theme that she may grow out of in a few years.

If you have a Kmart near by, they carry the Martha Stewart line of linens & things. She really has some nice ideas & all the new latest color designs. Won't cost you an arm & a leg either. They also have Joe Boxer items there. All different designs & up on the latest of everything. Now that they've bgt. out Sears, their line of things is just super. But you won't be paying the high department store prices. Do some mixing & matching w/the color selections available. Take her along to see what colors she likes best. Get some neat "throw pillows" for the bed. Really makes it look neat.

I have to agree with the person that suggested ... let the 13 year old design the room. Its their room. I would get their imput and then do it as a family project ... let them pick out colors, or themes.

Not knowning if the teenager is a boy or girls kind of restricts us from giving you real suggestions ... so, find out what your teen is into and let them tell you what you need to purchase in order to make it their room.

never heard of a 13 year old that didnt have an opinion.

tell us more and then resubmit the question if your child does not have an opinion.

With your child being 13 they are old enough to decide what they like and don't like. In the end you can rule out anything too over the top (like black walls, carpets..etc...lol). The best thing to do is to sit your child down and discuss it together and then go out shopping.
You'll be considered the coolest parent for doing this. Taking their likes into consideration rather than just trying to surprise them is much more important.
Good Luck.

Boy or girl? Start with a favorite color then add in a hobby. My sons room is blue with guitars and posters of classic bands (The Doors, Rolling Stones...) on the walls. The posters are, of course, in poster frames. Also there are pictures of Jake and his friends on the walls.

Try hgtv.com and go to "rate my space". other people (real people, not designers) post pics of different rooms they have decorated and then onliners can rate them! maybe once you are done, you can post your pic, too. OR i know some people even post their "before" room and ask for suggestions. how fun! be sure to ask her what she likes though and I would make the suggestion to have your daughter help you-- not only with input but with the actual work. it will be less work for you, she will feel good for helping and hopefully it will bring the 2 of you closer than ever!

ask the 13 yr old what their ideas are about their room now that they are a teenager and what really cool stuff they like, and go from there somethings you may not be able to do, but do the best you can!

I would ask my kid. Thirteen is an age when they want to make these kind of decisions by themselves, or at least have input in them. Not only that, but it's a great way to bond with your kid and teach them a few home improvement tricks.
