((((((uncle)))))))
I'm soooo glad to see you !!
I'm of polish decent Uncle, and we always say that we could be lying in a fetal position trembling with pain, and if the paramedic asks, we would say... "O I'm fine how are you?"
LOL
blessings :)
(is it par-tay time?)

I think I was sending the message that into each life a little rain must fall and that I consider some illness to be par for the course.
Edit: Oooo, reading some of the answers reminds me of my last trip to Ireland and puking my guts out over some, well, too much whiskey the next day and being happy to be done doing that. Just being sweaty and having the shakes or being up and about town felt pretty damned good. Good was relative.

I told them the truth, if felt crappy(tired, nervous, frustrated, depressed...) I would tell them, if I'm in a bad mood I would tell them. When I do, people often cheer me up or give me some advice on how to make home made remedies, chicken soup, yada yada yada.
However, I don't get sick much or even have a cold. If I do the cold only last for about a day or two.
Last time I was really sick was about 10 years ago. I never get a flu, fever maybe once a year, but only last for about a day.

I might give a straight answer to a sibling or good friend. My mother is by nature one who was meant to have a newborn in her arms at all times. She is 77 and lives with me, and if I hint I am sick, there is no rest for me. Chicken soup, crushed ice, 7 Up, jello, sherbert and anything else she can put her sweet little hands on are presented to me with clock-like precision until I convince her I am well. That is why I rarely missed work. All of the items I listed, by the way, are things that I hate to ingest, having thrown them up so many times as a child. God love her, she means well!

I don't respond to anyone because I don't answer the phone, I don't answer the door, I hide in the comfortable fluffy wonderland of my bed surrounded by 10 pillows underneath a thick plush king size down comforter. I just write on sticky notes to my hubby of what I want and smile at my kids as they show big concerning eyes at my pale face.

When someone asks that and I say "I'm Okay" I could either not feel that the person I was answering needed a different answer, or I could feel they didn't want a different answer.

I am sick often..so the last time was yesterday and I did answer "I'm Okay" with a tone in my voice that said, "no, not really"..the message I guess is, I don't want to talk about it and don't want to bother you with it...

Yes, and spared them a long list of ailments and other assorted negative non-essential things that would probably left them depressed.
You can not be responsible for how someone is going to receive what you say. That is their is their responsibility.
