Trip has been planned since May, so nothing I can just reschedule. I'm interviewing for jobs, should I tell them at the interview, as I'm offered the position, or after I'm hired? I know its going to look really bad to ask off so quickly after hired.

You should tell them after you're offered the position so it will be a condition of employment. So you are waiting until you know they want you. During the interview may turn them off from you. After you're hired and they will wonder why you held out on them.

Couple things, it is unclear how long you will be gone - a few days vs 2 weeks. It is also unclear if you are applying for a full time job or a summer job or a part time job. If it is for a full time job, I think you want to be fairly up front about it. Potentially you can get the time off without pay and have no other issues. It is also possible that you can borrow vacation forward, in which case you would just not be able to take some vacation in the future. In business, people generally dislike surprises.

Otherwise, I would probably tell them after you have the offer, especially if it is just a few days. It is quite possible that you will tell them this and they might not accept it, which could result in your being fired. Low end jobs could work this way.

I was in a similar situation to you when I took my last job. I had a trip planned, and their was no rescheduling it. When I called to accept the offer I said I accept on the condition that I am allowed to take a week off for a vacation I had planned.
Most companies understand it and you should not have a problem.

You pretty much have to discuss it when an offer is made because you will not have any vacation time available in two months. You will have to get it preapproved that you will be taking the time off and how your pay will be handled.

If you have enough cash to get buy until you get back from your trip, why don't you wait to do your interviews then.

That way it won't be a problem for you or them.
