It really depends on your reasons for leaving. For example, if you're wanting to leave because you don't like their stand on moral issues, I would say that you need to stay there and have some heart-to-hard talks with your priest about what's bothering you.
If you're leaving because of doctrinal concerns that are not moral questions per se, then you may be on firmer ground. Do try to stick with a denomination that has the same kind of historical view of Christianity that Catholicism does. Conservative Lutherans, and Orthodox, are good for this. Episcopals/Anglicans can be, but they're very inconsistent.

I believe its a good idea.
The RCC stopped following God's Word hundreds of years ago.
I could give you hundreds of reasons, but I can't type that fast.
Find a church which baptizes people only have they have as an individual decision, repented of their sins and decided to become a follower of Jesus.
Find a church which talks about being "born again", where they really teach the Bible, where no one leaves just cause the sermon is over an hour long, and its so interesting no one has noticed that the sermon has lasted over an hour.
If you need help finding such a church, anywhere in the world, let me know.
I also have a 5 page MS Word document which compares many key point of practice and belief between what the Bible says vs what the RCC says.
I'll E-mail it to anyone who asks and tells me their regular E-mail address.
God Bless,
Pastor Art

Whatever your reasons for this change are between you and God alone. My opinion is for you to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and to help come up with the right answer for you. Each of us is different and will choose one religion over another because it gives us what we desire, or helps us on our journey of life, it helps fulfill what we need for our spiritual growth. If you don't like going to an XYZ Church, and you think ABC Church is better for you, then God Bless you on your decision and draw comfort from the fact that you are doing the right thing. May the Good Lord Bless You and Keep you in the Palm of His Hand all the Days of Your Life!

That is your freewill, but you have to look at your own reasons. Personally, after years of searching and researching other denominations, the Church fit the bill for me. Their tenents made more sense, as they combine all aspects of Jesus' time and the early Church into the traditions and teachings held through today. They are also in the forefront of education, sciences, and true charitable work. I do not go regularly, but I firmly believe and teach the Holy Trinity and the Blessings of the Virgin Mary to my children.
If it is because of the rampant homosexuality and hypocrisy of some Leaders, you have to remember that humans are involved, and they will be judged accordingly when the time comes. It also happens in other denominations, too. You have to seriously pray on your own needs and intentions for the answer to this.

I will be praying for you. I know that if you ask The Lord to help you, He will give you guidance. Pray to God, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you when you are reading your Bible. In the holy scriptures you will find the path to the Religion that will lead you to salvation. May the Lord bless you in making the right decision.
Compare what the Church teaches with the Bible. If they don't match, then you need to look for another church. Your salvation and the salvation of those you love is too precious; too valuable. Do not allow anyone to mislead you. Study the Bible, compare verse with verse and God will help you find the truth.
There is a great web site that I use to learn about the Bible:
The Lord is coming soon, and we need to be ready. That is reason enough for you to look for answers in the Bible.

That is exactly what I did 27 years ago, (I'm 60 now), because the RC church had no presence of Heavenly Father or Jesus Christ, in my opinion. I saw no reason to continue attending. I had been graduated from college for 6 years and felt strongly that I wanted God in my life. I prayed for guidance about what church to join.. A day or 2 later, the Mormon missionaries came to my door and I soon found out that this was the church for me. I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 27 years and it has been what I needed. So, pray to God and wait for His answer. He will help you to choose.

Hi there,
I think you are making the right choice for more than one reason. Check this site out and read it carefully.
http://www.carm.org/catholic.htm
or you could just go to carm.org
You are going to have a lot of mixed answers and opinions on here, but faith is not about other people nor their opinions. It is between you and God and finding the truth. That site will help you and hopefully answer some questions you have. I wish you the best.

My opinion is this.. take a break from your faith if you feel its not the place for you.
Study as many religions as you want.. take your time. No need to rush. Talk to people who practice the religions you study. Talk to people who disagree with the religions you are studying as well. Read their holy books.. attend their religious meetings.
Talk to God... or to whatever higher power the religion suggests...
In time, you will find what is right for you. Whether it be another brach of Christianity, another religion all together.. or even going back to the Roman Catholic Church.
Finding the right religion for yourself is the best way to have a strong faith, and know that you are living your truth.. not the truth you were raised in, and you won't ever feel like you are living a lie or faking it.

I am Methodist and i am marrying a Catholic guy and we had to have this discussion....what church should we go to? We decided to not use "Denomination" word at all and write down all the things we want in a church. After that we researched on our own about different topics (not just what out parents told us) and we are in the process of looking right now!
Good Luck to you!!!

The best thing to do is pray about it.
Then, read your Bible. Know what YOU believe. If you feel you need to leave, start calling churches and talk to the Pastors. Ask what they believe about the things that are important to you.
If you find a church that fits what you believe, go visit. See if you are comfortable. If not, keep looking until you find the right fit.
I'll pray for you too. :-)
