It completely depends on where you will live and where you will work. If you live in one of the more residential, further out neighborhoods and work in Queens or somewhere else other than Manhattan you may want your car. If you move to a neighborhood like Brooklyn Heights or something and work in Manhattan then a car will be a hassle and unnecessary expense.

To tell you the truth I'd rely on the subway!! Those $2 will take you anywhere you want to in the 5 boroughs. Plus gas is about $3.30, which is very high. And no matter where u are in NYC, there are alot of crazy drivers!

Rely on the subways and buses for most of the stuff (and get the monthly Metrocard). Use one of the car sharing services, like ZipCar, for those things that you can't or way to inconvenient to do by mass transit. That way you don't have to worry about the insane car insurance or the monthly expense of a garage for your car (on-street parking is an extreme hassle).

Everything is assemble via MTA (buses and trains), if you plan to commute often to Manhattan I would not recommend a car especially with limited space for parking and very high road tolls. It'll take you a long time to get anywhere via automobile. Most people don't have cars. Gasoline is more expensive here than the national average and pedestrains definitely have more rights than drivers.

It completely depends on where in Brooklyn you're living. There are neighborhoods that are better served by the subway then others.

Depends on where you'll be staying and if you plan on traveling out of the city from time to time. The MTA is reliable once you get the hang of it but it'll be hard to give up your car

A car in Brooklyn is a luxury not a necessity.

Watch, out for the pickpockets on the subway. I would still bring my car with me. You need to be able to get around after work, and on the weekends.
