Is there anywhere I can find how many times each driver has been penalized over the years?

As mentioned already, it is the crew chiefs that are the cheaters. The drivers are only involved in the setup of the car by telling the crew what it is doing on the track and what they want it to do. The crew chief oversees all of the modifications done to the car. That is why they are the ones getting fined and suspended instead of the drivers. The drivers moreless operate on a "Don't ask, don't tell" motto.
Below is a link about the top 5 cheaters in Nascar history.

The only driver I know that has been caught cheating is Robby Gordon when he ripped off a piece of foam and threw it out the window to cause a caution. All the rest were crew chiefs being caught.

Richard Petty was caught every week. If he had run some of the cars he had built, he would have won 300 races. Dale Earnhart was also a big man on pushing the rule books. The drivers today don't hold a candle to the drivers of yesteryear.

HMS has been caught and penalized for cheating the most out of the teams. Chad Knauss and Letarte both have some long records of cheating. Drivers themselves don't necissarily get caught cheating. Its more with car set ups and illegal parts.

It is really the crew chiefs that you have to give the blame of cheating to. They are the ones who oversee everything and make every call on the team. I think Tony Stewart has been caught cheating and been penalized the most. The crew chief that has been caught the most is definitely Chad Knaus.

no but it seems like people are blaming jeff gordon and jimmie johnson alot. i don't understand that. maybe johnson because chad knaus has a history of cheating over the years but this is steve letartes first time. i think crew chief's are the one's that cheat. the drivers just drive the car.

im not gonna right a dang essay on your question. like all these "top answer" fanatics. but ive watched nascar religiuosly for over 15 years. and to the best of my knowledge, i would say that Robby Gordon is nascars bad boy. not only cheating, but fights etc. lol

As far as trying to find the stats your looking for i dont know. possibly www.jayski.com they have alot of misc. stats like that. but its a poorly designed site, so you have to dig around for w/e your looking for.

Wasn't it Sterling Marlin who got out of his car during a red flag in a race to "adjust' the fender on his car after a ''mishap''? Blatant rule violation!
