Stop driving them. Unless they offer to pay for the privilege of riding with you, you're not out a dime. When they offer, it should be 50 cents a mile, per day.
What a pack of deadbeats. Tell your buddy's gf that she can drive him to work every day, you'll wave at them when you see them on the road. I'd make each of them buy me lunch one day a week for a month, to boot.

I used to carpool a few years ago and we all took turns driving a week at a time, so whoever's turn it was to drive paid for the gas. But, since you are the only one driving your vehicle, I say that they should pay you for your gas even if you are going to the same place. They would have to pay for a bus or a cab, why not the designated driver "YOU". If it were me, I would fill up my car and divide it by 4 and say this is what you owe me this week. If they don't like it, they can find another way to work. Nothing is free anymore and times are hard! Good luck even if you end up riding by yourself, which is what I personally would rather do.

You aren't carpooling, you're running a chauffer service. Just tell them you can't afford to foot the bill anymore, and either they chip in for expenses or they can find another way to get themselves to work. These guys are taking advantage of you, and if they don't want to help with costs they can rise the bus or pay cab fare to get to work. Figure out how many MILES , not minutes you drive to work each week. Let's say it's 200 miles, then figure out your gas mileage, lets use 20mpg for this example. That's 10 gallons of gas each week, or $30. Let each of them pay you $10 per week (10 *3 = 30), your contribution will be your insurance and the wear and tear on your car. This is a totally fair arrangement, and if they don't like it, tell them to take the "shoe leather express".

Certainly they should be helping you out. What you are describing is not carpooling. Carpooling is when people take turns driving to work to save on gas money, avoid excessive wear and tear on their cars, and help the environment a little too. What you are doing is giving lazy people a free ride. You mentioned they don't have their licenses - are they adults? Each of them should be chipping in gas money for at least one days commute worth of gas per week. That's fair. If they do not wish to help simple advise them that you are going to be looking into getting into a carpooling system with people that do help pay for gas or take turns driving as well if they dont start helping their slots will be given away and they will have to find other means of transportation to work. Yes I think you should charge them. With them in the car, is much heavier and as a result more gas is burned. If you only carpool them for a couple days, then Iet it go but your talking months here. In the end its YOU and your CAR. Just casually mention "hey guys you know gas money is really expensive these days. it would be helpful if you help pay for some of the gas." or something like that

If you can't just straight out ask them, say that you're planning to get a moped because it'll save you so much on gas. If that isn't enough to open their wallets, rent a moped for a day and hand your friends a bus schedule.
As for how much...you need to figure out a reasonable miles-per-gallon figure then split the cost evenly; that's the minimum figure. If you were submitting expenses for a business trip in your own car they'd figure maintenance and depreciation into the cost as well, at least 35 cents a mile for everything. Divided that 4 ways, that's 9 cents a mile times the total commute distance.

if they had their license and a car and you were to car pool usually people rotate like one person one week and another person another week.
so considering they dont have their license they should each chip in on gas seeing as it would be only fair. maybe like 30$ a week. like 30 from one guy one week then 30 from the other guy the next.
you could say something like "hey ive been thinking about it and maybe you guys should start chipping in gas money"
if they say no or something you could be like "well then i guess you can take a cab, im sure that would be much more cheap" (it of course would not be cheaper)

Sounds kinda rough. How about you talk with one of them alone and ask him/her if they could help pay for gas everyday. It doesn't have to be much. Just enough to equal the amount which is needed
for gas. Don't come on too stongly now. And if they say yes then you got one of them on your side. Now for the one that said they don't have to pay for gas you should either stop driving him/her to work, ask him/her to help pay for gas, or do whatvever comes to the mind. And if they start talking sh*t about you, who cares, let them they are the ones who should be feeling bad.Remeber it's your car and your life, take control NOW!!!

You need to ask for what you want or you will never get it. You are right you know you are so tell them how much you spend in gas to get to work. If they fight you on it fill up then pick them up take them to work then after work take them with you to fill back up your car. They will see it is no not a joke. Split the amount 4 ways if they don't pay up stop bringing them they are the jerks not you.

Makes sense to me. There should be a cash pool for a carpool. If you were each driving a different day, I would say no, but since it's only you doing all the driving, it's completely unfair that they're going to work and you're just going broke.
