Is it not a valid way to catch criminals?

You have hit the point! The police use profilers to solve crimes yet our government says it is politically not correct in airports to protect ourselves. My wife was pulled out line and searched when she flew home to be with her dying father. The y finally told her "it's because you had one way tickets and hardly any luggage". Well duh! how was she supposed to know when her dad would pass on. So SHE WAS PROFILED. And yet 2 obvious mid-eastern types, with carry on luggage, passed through. My 110 lb wife who stands 5' 2" is going to hijack a plane? Come on! If a witness says a Hispanic committed a crime should we all look for white or black guys because that is profiling? And then those jerks over there kill people for having a Holy Bible and our idiots throw soldiers in jail for roughing up the Koran. Let' get real about these guys.

If terrorists were white males, I would EXPECT to be profiled. I have never understood why a 80 year old white woman with a walker is given the same scrutiny at airport security (if not more for the show of it) than a 30 year old middle eastern man.

My best friend is from Iran. He finds it insane that he (and other middle eastern men) are not profiled. He is all in favor of it because it is SMART! If you ask him, he would say..."I would wear my ID on my sleeve if they would profile because in this time, it is necessary!"

It can be a helpful tool. In the context of terrorism or organized crime, though, it can backfire if the 'bad guys' find out what your profile is.

If drug smugglers find out that you're profile of thier 'mules' is young women from Guatamala, than can have more guys swallowing drugs for them, and evade detection more easily. If terrorists find out you're only searching young muslim males getting onto planes, they can recruit some of those female terrorists from Chechnya for the next 9/11. If you're only on the lookout for guys with beards, they can shave. That kinda thing.

Good question. I'd liketo point out that ALL the insurance companies use profiling all the time, and nobody seems to have a problem with that.

I am sure it is helpful.
I still would like to know why at the airport they pulled my son and myself away to screen us longer. We were standing in seperate lines. We are both very tall and slim, pale with red hair and we were both wearing black.I assume it was because we had one way tickets..

Security people use it in Airports but won't admit to the practice. The problem with it is people that look like certain cultures get singled out for special attention. Personally I like the practice and hope it continues.

It's not PC but I think it should be used. I hate it how we have become so politically correct!

The problem is when the cops suspect someone, the crook will scream that he was profiled.

it's hard because in one way, sterotypes are sterotypes for a reason but on the other hand, it's proven that people can be different than those within their category.

We can't say all black men are tall, but yes, some black men are in fact tall. That is where we get the profile with racial profiling. It is true that most females love purses, but not all females love purses.

But your not saying you would use it to "catch" or spot illegals by simply looking at Latinos/Hispanics?

Yes but the liberals don't want the criminals caught. With high crime rates, they can push for the elimination of the rest of the bill of rights starting with the 2nd amendment. They will use crime as a way to force us into communism.
