I'd like to see or hear this. When and where did he say it and where can I find it?

That's just a dumb thing to say. The Pope, I mean. Not you...

No, the Pope does not say that and has frequebtly said the opposite.
The Congregation for the Defense of the Faith clarified what the Catholic definition of "the Church" is
. The Catholic Church sees itself as the true, original and full Church. The Orthodox and Old Catholic Churches are authentically sacramentally valid churches but they need to reunite with the Catholic Church.
Protestant Churches are not "ecclesiae",valid churches ,because they lack apostolic succession but they are real "instruments of salvation" and have authentic elements of the True Church and are part of the Body of Christ.
Zenit has the Clarification (or response) to Questions Concerning the Doctrine of the Church document at www.zenit.org/article-2009?1=eng
You are wise to look for the primary text and not the distortions and outright lies written about it. The Catholic Church does not teach that it is the only Church or that non Catholics cannot be saved.

Here is the full text of the new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html

Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.

While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:

Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.

Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.

All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

The Vatican has maintained the Catholic church is the only Church since the beginning. You must not be Catholic. Read any book about religious history not written by Catholic source and you can learn about this

Where ya been. This is weeks-old news.

Actually, he said that the Roman Catholic Church is the only "true" church, meaning that the others don't have the full truth. Exactly the same as every other sect believes, but is not necessarily brazen enough to say it.

Pope Benedict said nothing new but reaffirmed that the Catholic Church is the true Church of Jesus Christ. Other churches and communities can have elements of that true Church but not all of them.

Hello,

Just a comment on one posting. The pope was not a member of the nazi party. Like the vast majority of kids in Germany he got shipped off to hose Hitler youth camps like it or not but got away as quick as he could. Also during the war people who were in the German army were not all nazis but conscripts. The penaty for refusing to serve was not a few hundred hours community service like those American draft dodgers who gum s hit her to Canada and returned to serve these light slap on the wrist penalties. The penaty was death sometimes by firing squad and other times by the German guillotine for mouthy draft dodgers. Things did not go well for your family either.

I have heard this nonsense about assuming all Germans in the forces were nazi party members for 40 years and am suprised it still continues.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

It was in the newspaper but not sure where he was when he said it but said it he did. He goes back to Vatican 1 where it states that the only true path to salvation is through the Catholic church - otherwise you have either a defective salvation or aren't a Christian at all. Sorry, but the bible says if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, you will be saved. The bible says nothing about belonging to the Roman Catholic Church. Very sad.

That surprises you?! That has ALWAYS been the stand of the Roman Catholic religion. Why do you think Protestants are so much against them! Rome teaches every heresy conceivable and then calls itself the only true church. Christians, you need to catch up on your history!!! America was founded to get away from Rome!
