teeth are sensitive. and i think it's become a stereotype we've all adopted. the affinity to dislike dentists. although, if i ever get insurance, i plan to go in for a check up.

i think most people are more afraid of what the dentist will find right. my brother in law recently went and had 9 cavaties, and had no idea.

freaky stuff. no one wants to go toothless!

The less we visit the dentist, the more are we prone to tooth decay, which require painful dental procedures to cure. Since the prospect of having to endure pain is a dreadful thing, many people with tooth decay become afraid of the dentist.

PAIN!! & the sound of the high speed drill. If the dentist starts to work on your teeth BEFORE the nerves are numb, the pain hurts like......!!!

NICK*NICK,
THAT'S AN EXCELLENT QUESTION.
WHY ARE PEOPLE SCARED OF SNAKES OR SPIDERS?
THE SIMPLE TRUTH IS THAT THEY DON'T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT WHAT THEY FEAR.
ANOTHER MORE REALISTIC REASON IS BECAUSE THE PATIENT WAS HURT BY A PREVIOUS DENTIST. THEY REMEMBER THAT FIRST INCIDENT OF PAIN, AND IMAGINE EVERY FUTURE DENTAL APPOINTMENT AS ONE TO CAUSE PAIN.
THIS IS WHY CHILDREN MUST NEVER EXPERIENCE AN INITIAL PAINFUL EXPERIENCE. IT INSTILLS I THEM A PHOBIA WHICH CAN LAST A LIFETIME.

Well, considering my dental hygenist seems to not be able to use her tools properly (constantly stabs my gums with the metal thingy), and they are always adding another expense on, of course I fear the dentist.

Seriously? Teeth pain is the worst.. so bad, even mothers prefer giving birth than suffering from toothaches! And pain is something most of us fear. Plus, it's never soothing to see a guy with needles and picks headed for your mouth!!!
