I just got my tooth extracted yesterday and ever since then, food got stuck in the site where the tooth was taken out. I couldn't use the salt water because you are not supposed to do that in the first 24 hours. So some food particles are stuck there. I can see it but I can't take it out...Is that something I should be worried about? How should I get it out?

HELLO,
AS OTHERS HAVE SUGGESTED A WATERPIK SET ON THE GENTLEST CYCLE WILL EASILY REMOVE THE FOREIGN MATTER TRAPPED IN THE EXTRACTION SITE AND WON'T CAUSE ANY DAMAGE TO THE SITE.
SWISHING GENTLY WITH LUKEWARM SALT WATER FOR 30 SECONDS TWICE A DAY WILL AID IN HEALING.

Yes, a waterpik is a good idea. Regular water won't hurt the site, but you need to get the food out of it!

Gargle with water and concentrate on the side with the extraction. The motion may loosen the particles.

Don't poke at it.

Your best bet is to contact your dentist or oral surgeon and ask.

Have you tried using a wet gauze to GENTLY wipe it? Or you could use the waterpik like everybody else told you.

Talk to your dentist but you may be able to use a waterpic. That will do the trick and the socket will eventually fill in and the problem will vanish.
