Your best bet is to get one. I have family that lives in Puerto Rico so I travel there a lot. There is a law that was suppose to be in affect earlier this year stating that any puerto rican that wants to go to the U.S. needs a passport. The problem that keeps coming up is trying to get everyone a passport. Whats happening is that a lot of other nationalities are moving to P.R. for a couple of years than entering the U.S. saying that they are Puerto Ricans. Just to be on the safe side I would get one. You might not need one now but if the law passes while your there you might be stuck for a couple of weeks.

Since you are comming from Ohio which is a State, then you do not need a passport. But do bring anyother identifications that you have. My daughter lives here and goes to Maryland, New York and Florida and she does not need a passport. Puerto Rico is still United States Territory, soon to be a State of the Union.

"In an effort to enhance security and efficiency at U.S. borders, the U.S. government is now enforcing new passport requirements for all travelers entering or re-entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. Travel between the U.S. and U.S. territories (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) will not be affected."
Even though you are traveling to one of the territories, it is still a good idea to have one as an alternate form of ID.
