Well, you'd certainly make more than if you were flipping burgers at McDonalds.

However, in general, the game industry pays somewhat poorly when compared to the rest of the computer industry. The hours are long, the deadlines are crushing. Burnout is commonplace.

If you get fee for video games you have developed or you're selling your own video games... and you're successful on it... then yes, you're income is not limited

though... if you want to be payed good, then you have to develop for the market, which means designing video games that you may not want to design... (so you'd be doing that for the money)...

There are great video game designers who do many things, that means they don't just design video games, but also create websites and communities for the gamers.
