Headphones are analog devices; even if you could physically plug them into a digital output, you wouldn't get sound. You'd need a digital-to-analog converter in the chain.

Your computer almost certainly has a true headphone output jack somewhere. They all do. Keep looking.

Is there red light coming out of the jack? If so, you need an optical cable, and a receiver or power speaker system with digital optical input. Or it could be an RCA jack; you could use a yellow video patch cable to connect it to a receiver with digital in.
