Best choice is HDMI , High definition media interface. One cable provides you with both digital picture and sound. Second choice would be DVI, this cable provides you with digital picture but no sound , you will need a seperate audio cable. HDMI is the cable of the future handling higher resolution products including 1080p.Component cables are on their way out ,should be used only if your HD tv and dvd player do not have HDMI or DVI conections.

Definately go with the HDMI. You only need 1 cable because it carries both audio and video and is digital. DVI is an older digital style plug and is being phased out. Componant is strictly for video. It provides better color. "S" type is also just video for a sharper picture. Both are analog, not digital and you'll still need the red and white RCA connectors/cable to feed audio.

HDMI is the best. Its a gold plated connector, and it runs on the highest available HDTV setting which is 1080p (progressive). HDMI is definitely the way to go. DVI is HD, but only to 720p I believe. 3-RCA (Red, White, and Yellow connectors) are for 480i (standard).

I have found that component works just as well as HDMI, so go with the cheapest one.
