and I lent them to him. Next thing I know he took off with them on his bike, Most likely to sell them to pay for some drugs. On the whole this pattern has gone on in the past. My brother is essentially an asshole. He abuses our parents and will screw over anyone he can and is un-remorseful about it. I know that the value of what he stole is relatively low but how can I go about reporting this as a theft to my local police department? What steps should I take? I need to do this to avoid this incident escalating to a potentiality dangerous domestic violence situation. I'm tired of him screwing over anyone that he can. It needs to stop. I'm trying to keep my cool right now. Can anyone out there give me advice on what I can do?

Keep cool. Venting is good.

But understand there is never a legitimate reason to turn a family member over to the police...ever
There is nothing in this world that comes before family.

Do whatever you can to remedy the situation.. counseling.. whatever... work it out

Report it as soon as possible. Also, I'd call a drug intervention counselor to seek some help for your brother.
