If you know it is bad, why do you need to see it in order to avoid it?

Defiantly a help. Many times something is disguised so well as good we accept without bothering to look deeper. that is where discernment comes in--to see bad intent or good.

When it is outright evil, no one should have trouble. It is the subtle kind that gets most people. We go around the loose snare rope on the ground attached to a tree only to fall in the hole covered with leaves.

Kinda. In my experience so far, it's usually my OWN bad intent that allows me to fall victim to the bad intent of others. If my own heart is 'right' then I don't fall for scams, lies, etc., but if I'm in bad state of mind . . . well, I can be just as gullible as anyone.
