Faith with out works is dead, what would you like your church, or churches in general, to do to become more active in your life and in the community it serves?

My church does alot in that regard. I really can't fault us there.
We have weekly grocery give aways to the poor.We support an Aids Clinic,School, and Churches in our sister church in Africa.
We do a toy give away for the communtiy and feed the hungry at other times as well.
I think we are doing great.

what can the church do for ME? what can my neighbors do for ME? what can the gov't do for ME?
this sounds like a question coming from a person that DOESN'T go to church. I don't know about everybodys church, but the one i go to, helps people traveling through, that needs a place to stay,or gas,or food. and people who can't pay their electric bills, and baskets of food at xmass time, and summer camp for kids.
but, i have yet to see somebody walk up and say, here is twenty bucks to help in what you're doing.
the same ones help all the time,and the same ones whine all the time.

Practice to be more like the church we see in the book of Acts.
Give everyone in the community what they need, find out who needs their electric bill payed. Found out which family is out of propane. Find out who has a kid with bad teeth and take up a collection to take that kid to the dentist. It all starts in your own backyard.
This is how Jesus put it.
Act 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

A church can't do anything. It isn't sentient.
Frankly, I just want people in my "community" to leave me alone, and I don't just mean religious people.
I mean ANYBODY with an agenda.
