Why can't Protestants understand what is a "first born son" when the Bible itself tells us? "First born son" does NOT mean there were subsequent children! A "first born son" is a "male that opens the womb" (Luke 2:23; Exodus 13; Numbers 18:15-16), regardless of whether or not there are subsequent children.

Meg,
I really do not know. Many refuse to read, study, and adequately obey GOD'S HOLY WORD. HE will send CHRIST to judge each of us in HIS TIME. Have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks,

You are right, there is no implication of subsequent children of MOTHER MARY here. Nor anywhere in the Scripture. The one time it was suggested that JESUS did have other siblings, when MOTHER MARY and others were at the door. JESUS then immediatly says, not in agreement that that they were even HIS family, but asks a question, "Who is my family?"

That is a noteable question, because JESUS once asked the Apostles a Question, "Who do people say I am?" And the answer to this given by Saint Peter led to JESUS giving to Saint Peter the keys to the KINGDOM.

Therefore we should ask a person, Who do you say JESUS is? and their answer to this will put us on better footing . .. but more so, since many will give the Bible's answer to this question . .. let us then ask them another question, "Who are JESUS' family?" . ..

Now some will immediatly give the Bible answer, "Those who do the will of GOD the FATHER." And that is correct, and has been revealed to them by flesh and blood.

The man who says that MOTHER MARY is our MOTHER is a Catholic and should also understand the REAL PRESENCE in the HOLY EUCHARIST. But protestants will rebuke it because it is not in the bible, and so attack the teaching. But that's how JESUS lost many of HIS followers. This is something that will always seperate the Catholics and Protestants, unless they stop protesting the CHURCH and start obeying CHRIST's Chuch, and through it CHRIST . ..

LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen.

:edit: oh, and i just realized, JESUS being the first born son of MOTHER MARY THE NEW EVE, means JESUS is fulfilling a dual role, at once of Adam and the son Able. The significance of this is further justified in Luke one by the dual annunciation of JESUS and his cousin John the Baptist. John the Baptist takes the role of Caine and JESUS as Able, and therefore John the Baptist went into the wilderness eating locusts and honey as Caine was living in exile, and the came to the river jordan to give LIFE to JESUS thereby restoring the sin of Caine slaying Able . .. rather than a murder this becomes a resurrection or LIFE giving act unto JESUS . .. Thus JESUS is the GOOD SHEPARD, because Able is a shepard.

Some Protestants say that the use of the word "firstborn" indicates that Mary had other children, but they are simply being ignorant of Jewish law, Pidyon ha-Ben in particular.
Pidyon ha-Ben is the "Redemption of the Firstborn," who were to have been consecrated to God and serve as priests and Temple workers.
The "firstborn" is the male child that "opens the womb". If the child that "opens the womb" is a female child, there is no "firstborn" for the family because the child that "opened the womb" is not a masculine child. If no more children are born after the firstborn, the firstborn still has the status and title of "firstborn."

The relevant Torah verses are:

Exodus 13:2
Sanctify unto me all the firstborn, whatsoever openeth the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of beast: it is mine.

Exodus 13:14-15
And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage: And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem.

Numbers 18:15
Every thing that openeth the matrix in all flesh, which they bring unto the LORD, whether it be of men or beasts, shall be thine: nevertheless the firstborn of man shalt thou surely redeem, and the firstling of unclean beasts shalt thou redeem.

it is not so much ignorance, as much as a different interpretation of the verse so as to justify their criticism of the Catholic teaching of Mary's perpetual virginity.

Holy Holly, it is quite interesting that those who in Scripture who claimed to know Jesus' siblings, also denied Jesus' divinity. Think about it. Thanks for sharing the scripture verses.

Also, in ancient greek, the language in which the New Testament was written, there is no word for cousin or other close relative. All were "adelphi" or brothers.

Ignoramus, the point of Mathew 1:24-25 is to affirm that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary. How you can stretch that to imply that Joseph had sexual relations after Jesus was born is beyond me.

If Mary had other children, why did jesus give her to John who was not a biological son of Mary.?

There is a Greek word for cousin but not an 1st cent Aramaic word for cousin

Michal,Saul's daughter and one of David's wives,'had no child until she died': did she have one afterwards?

Adelphoi in Greek can mean people not even related to each other.

It's nice to see a shining example of Christian ego such as yourself. Quite the sophomaniac aren't you? And you wonder why people would block you?

Quella Bella said it right in her answer to you.

This is not the verse by which Jesus' siblings are recognized.
These verses are:

Mark 6:3
"Where did this man get these things?" they asked. "What's this wisdom that has been given him, that he even does miracles! Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.

Galatians 1:19
I saw none of the other apostles—only James, the Lord's brother.

Protestants know Luke 2:7 as well as catholics.

All the Protestants that I know are aware of that. If not from church then perhaps from the Charlie Brown Christmas special.

To feed a little logic to you; because there was a firstborn son, it doesn't mean that there wasn't a second or third son, even half-brother's or step brother's of Jesus.

As in:
John 7:5
For even his own brothers did not believe in him.

and

Galatians 1:19
I saw none of the other apostles—only James, the Lord's brother.

So I don't know why Roman Catholics favor tradition over God's word.
