I already have two tattoos. I have a tattoo of two roses and a skeleton key on my lower back that took about 2.5 hrs. And my other tattoo is on my right lower stomach took about 20 min. I'm getting a French saying on my ribs next (in a month or so), and just wanted to know what is to be expected. I have a pretty high pain level.

it depends on your body type.
the less fat (not saying that you are fat) there is that spot, the more it'll hurt.
so if you ribs are less meaty than you lower back & stomach, then it'll probably hurt a little more

What Nikki said .. also, if you've noticed from your other tattoos - there are different sorts of pain. My back hurt worse than my stomach, but my stomach is healing slower than my back & was more pinchy.
I don't think you should expect TOO much pain out of it, especially if you do, in fact, have a pretty high pain level.

Hi! I'm a tattoo artist and i experiment on myself and out of my 87 tattoos my rib tat and my side tat hurt to the point of eyes watering!And I didn't even drink before i got those ones.

to me ribs are one of the hardest places to get but i have only gotten my ribs done. last sept. i got stars going up my ribs, from wher emy undies lay to about half or 1/3 of the way up my ribs. it hurt during but after i was fine. my birthday was on july 28th, i turned 17 and i wante dto bolden the stars, we added small ones and star dust and it looks amazing but i will say it was the worst pain of my life. the small needles hurt so bad, i dont know why it hurt so much more but it was awful. if you have a tolerence get it becasue it looks so good, i love rib tattoos and its only about an hour of pain, but expect some. i couldnt even finish the stars that were actually on my ribs because it hurt so bad, so when my bf gets back from bootcamp im getting the rib stars done, its going to suck, but good luck to you, im sure your much tougher than me.

My girlfriend has 6 tattoos on her body, 2 on each breast, one on the shoulder, 2 on the inseam of her tight, the one on the lowest tip of her spine, she said this only one is the most painful part when it was being tattoo. The shoulder one is the less painful part.

The ribs do hurt...
I wish I could say that it's not that bad.
But for me, it was the worst. I already
had 10, but that last one, was the
most painful. It's the placement. Every
time you move, or bend, or twist, it just hurts.
Think about it and talk it over with your artist.

my husband has several tattoos. the only one that bothered him was the rib one.
