If you're going to do them yourself make sure someone who knows how to cut nails has taught, don't just try to do it. Cutting their nails could result in you cutting their quick and it's painful and bloody or you could split the dog's nails.

You don't cut their nails on a time schedule you cut it on a basis of when they need to be cut. Part of knowing how to cut them is knowing how to tell when they need to be cut. Talk to your vet or groomer and have them show you the right length and how to cut nails properly.

If you aren't experienced in trimming the dogs nails, you shouldn't do it.
If you would hit the quick, they would bleed and it is very difficult to get the bleeding to stop. And the dog's life could be in danger.
If you are ever going to do them yourself, next time you take your dog to get her nails trimmed have the groomer or vet (whoever is doing the trimming) show you how to cut them. They will show you what to look for.
It's really difficult if the dog has black nails, because you can't see the quick.
If the dog has white nails, you can see the quick, it's the pink down by the bottom of the nail.
You DO NOT want to cut too close to that pink area. But if it were to bleed you should have a styptic powder to place on the bleeding nail in order to make it clot and stop bleeding.

It usually only costs about $7 to have them cut, it's really worth it.

They usually need cut about 1 to 2 months, depending how much they are able to wear them down on cement on their own.

Hope this helped you :)

Depends on the dog, if you can hear them scratching around on the floor when he/she runs around it's probably time to cut them again. But you have to look at them to be sure, if they look long, and especially if the ends are starting to crack, it's time to cut them again. If you do it yourself, make sure you get a good nail cutter that won't get stuck--do it fast to minimize the dog's discomfort but be careful not to cut the quick! Also, you might want to have someone help you the first time since you don't know how your dog will react.

It is best to wait 30 days between trimmings
Have a Vet or Vet Tech show you how at least one time before trying yourself. If you were to cut one too short it would bleed terribly .
