Help with my first car

All cars have problems - drive them with respect, maintain them properly at the correct intervals and drive according to the road conditions and any car will last a lifetime. Cars fail or rot due to negligence, lack of maintenance and boy racer style driving. Bit by bit material degradation faults occur and very soon it becomes uneconomical to repair so they are scrapped. The Ford Ka - along with many other makes/models are built with such robust and reliable materials nowerdays that they should all exceed 100,000 miles easily.

Not a good car really they rust, I have worked on more than 5 Ford Ka's that are less than 5 years old and already have rust showing. The engine was designed about 40 years ago and was well known for having a rattly top end when it was used in Mk1 fiestas and escorts. Rather than Ford sorting this problem out they just fitted a plastic rocker cover to deaden the sound. They are also more expensive to insure than rival cars from other manufacturers. Go for a VW Polo or Corsa much better cars

they rust and have terrible engines, engine bolts to steering rack, lots of bad design due to size,
buy a fiesta 1.25zetec, they are the same floorpan & running gear ,have a far superior engine (will NOT let you down, unlike the ka which will need serious overhaul at 60k)and are by far a better car stronger faster safer and last longer,

in short i am a mechanic and have repaired hundreds of fords , the ka is a bad car all round, the fiesta is the complete opposite and is a very good car allround

My wife has had a ka for 7 years now 70,000mls on clock apart from routine servicing, tyres, brake pads etc. We have had no major problems. It still has the original rear brake shoes! The bodywork has no major problems apart from a
small amount of rust at fuel filler.Washed regularly & polished a couple of times a year & it still looks good!!!!

We had one for 3 years and had no problems, other than it is a bit small if you have a lot of luggage for a holiday or something. Plus I'm quite tall and my head kept scraping on the roof, but I get that with most cars really, its somewhat annoying to be honest.
