The frontline doesn't work like it says that it should. I put it on them almost a month ago and I'm still seeing live fleas in their fur. I called an exterminator and it's too expensive to have them do my house so I bought carpet powder and did the house with that. I'm still seeing fleas. One of my cats was laying in bed with me and when he got up, I noticed all of the flea stuff (blood and eggs) all over the sheets. How do I stop this cycle that we're in and what is the best product to keep the fleas off of my babies (cats). Thank you.

The fleas have obviously gotten to breeding in your house, so as fast as the Frontline kills them, more climb aboard.

This is going to take ALL day, but it works and it won't cost a lot of money.....

First, go out and get food-grade diatomaceous earth (see link). It's a powder. Take a collander (noodle strainer) and pour the powder into it. Walk around your house and tap the collander so you get a nice, even coat all over your floor and furnture. Tap, tap, tap. It'll kill them. I suggest doing one room at a time so the cats don't get in your way. It won't hurt them any, though. Just annoy you. So, you leave the diasemacious earth on there for an hour or two, then go in and vaccuum. Start with the hose attachment and vaccuum the furniture, then do the floor. It'll take some time, but I promise it works. While your doing the powder bombing and vacuuming and stuff, wash all your sheets and stuff. You should also take the diatomaceous earth and sprinkle around the outside of your house to kill the bugs outside. Just leave it out there. We do it on our property all the time. On the deck, though, we sweep it off because it looks like Christmas, lol.

Once you have your house in order.... you're going to have to flea dip and flea comb the cats. Take a bowl of rubbing alcohol, get a cat and flea comb all the fleas off. Every time you see a flea, drop it into the bowl of alcohol.

Once you have the infestation under control, the frontline or advantage will have a better effect.

Good luck!

Have you tried calling your vet for information on this? They're trained in what's best to use for your particular area of the country, after all, and a phone call is free.

What works in the northern states sometimes needs extra help in the southern because there's no frost or winter time to kill flea eggs outdoors.

By all means give a local vet a call and describe your situation. The last thing you want to do is overexpose you and your pets to the poison needed to kill the insects. It can cause liver damage in both you and the cats if you get too much, and the cats are more at risk than you because their systems are so much smaller and have a faster metabolism.

If the fleas are slower moving on the cat, then they are probably doped and will die after a while. The chances are the fleas are jumping onto the cat from the house.

Flea bomb your house, or if you prefer not to use chemicals, ie you have children etc, then buy some borax powder (boots sell it with the laundry powder)and sprinkle it over the carpets and brush it into skirting etc. This kills the larvae and eggs by drying them out. You can also pour a capful of cider vinegar in with the cats drinking water, this acts as a natural deterrant for fleas from jumping onto your cat.

The eggs maybe in your duvet, or mattress. Throw out the duvet or wash it ir steam clean it. Steam clean the matress too. To cleans pillows, place them in the freezer or tumble dry them for a few minutes on high heat.

Good luck

Take them out of the house bathe them with flea shampoo while out of the house use a flea bomb as directed on the box you may need to repeat this in 2-3 weeks but it should work. Frontline only helps so much you really have to treat the house too because it sounds like you have a pretty bad infestation.

The reason why it is not working is because the fleas are jumping from the cat onto the carpet and places in your house.

Use a Flea Bomb, and make sure you use the front line & shampoo to get them off of the cats.

I have two cats and this worked perfectly for me

Use ADVANTAGE. It works way better than those other flea medications. I was having the same problem with my two cats that are indoor only. I put advantage on them on Monday and by Wednesday, there isnt one flea on them.
