love is when you still care about them like you'd be sad if they died but don't have that longing for them when you are in-love

I think the two are actually a lot closer than most people think. Being in love is very intense. It makes you want to be connected to the person all the time and you think about them all the time or so it seems. You want to share everything about yourself with them. And you want to know everything about them.
I love my cousin. We are very close frineds and have known each other always. We share a lot. I feel sad when I have to leave her (we live several hours apart) but, I don't long for her and miss her intensely and have a hard time living without her. I wish she lived closer but, I'm not going to rearrange my life so it can happen.
I do think new mothers go through a very intense stage when they are falling in love with their babies. Not just loving them but, falling in love with them. Dr. T Berry Brazleton talks about this in his books about child care -- "Touchpoints" I think it's called. I know this isn't related to your question but, he really does talk about the whole process of falling in love with your baby.

Love can be said and given to anyone, but to be in love is different. It's just a feeling of euphoria. That person just makes you feel instant happiness, even if you're just thinking of them. It's just that connection to that person that you can get with no other.

I would say to be in love with someone means that you can fall out of love with them. Real Love, or just love means that you choose to love them despite their fault, ect. It is a choice that you chose not to momentarily be in love but to love. I would say that this did not answer the question because people are looking to be in love but not to love. They are confusing the emotion with actually loving.

You can love someone and not be in love with them. For example my first serious bf that I dated a yr, i wanted to marry him ,but things didn't work out.I still love him-he's a great guy & his current gf is very lucky to have him, but i'm not in love with him.(it doesn't hurt to be without him, im happy to see him happy.)
However i am In Love , with my current bf.I would do anything for him and would seriously be a huge mess if anything happened to him/us.
Once you've loved and lost the diff bc very apparent between being in love and loving someone.

To be in love with someone would usually imply romance and intimacy on a level higher than one would share with, say, a relative. To love someone does not require romance or intimacy.
For example, I love my mom, but I am not in love with her.
I am however, in love with my boyfriend, because we share a special relationship that I could not share with someone like my mother or someone who is just a friend.

When you love someone, you care for them and feel affectionate towards them. When you're in love with someone, you want to spend your life with them and can't imagine being with anyone else.

That is just a cowardly way of telling someone that they're no longer interested in pursuing a relationship.
