I dont see any difference between an immigrant or an illegal immigrant. They are both here for the same reason, only one has a visa and the other has thrown caution to the wind. Good Luck to them.

I don't even know. I think immigration of any kind is part of life here on earth. If people a long time did it, why, for people who do it now, is it considered really bad?
I think people should not be call illegal for being in different parts of this earth.

Immigrants will be the future of the UK and its your future they will have stolen. It is totally incomprehensible how anyone can think this is OK. They have their OWN countries why don't they stay in them and fight the cause to improve their lives AT HOME!

The uk is an easy touch for them otherwise they wouldnt fight to get here but would stay in the first "safe" country they came to

To say Australia and America were built on immigration is true but do you realise how far time has moved on with population growth and development etc. Our ancestors didnt build this country for immigrants to take it from us. They worked and died so that we could have a decent future here

America is such a strong country because of immigrants.
I agree with you. I question myself sometimes about this issue. I don't understand people who are against immigrants, and there are a lot of opinions out there about it, some seem fair and others unfair. I think everyone should have a chance for a better life, because that is why people migrate, it's the need to survive. And if hard work is what it takes, the economy grows, and economy means future.
And to be honest, some people pretend to be blind when they say that this country doesn't need any more immigrants, when in reality, a lot of hired immigrants are been payed minimum wage while the companies grow unjustly rich. And that means future to them. An unfair one.

I think most are against Illegal immigration, not immigration. The whole American was built by immigrants argument is getting old too. This is 2007, problems today are much different than they were back then.

Legal immigrants get background checked and all the papers to work in the US. You don't see the difference between an illegal immigrant and a Legal one???Wow.

The Media is responsible for this as well as ignorance on part of some people. It is considered by some that Immigrants & asylum seekers are 'robbing'/impacting upon the 'natural' citizens of their rights/privledges. However, as you stated- immigrants have contributed to the economy and state but unfortunately, not everyone recognises this.

do you know any illegal immigrants?
THe immigrants to America and Australia BUILT those countries. Illegals to not contribute, they only take away.
When you get a job, pay taxes, buy a house and need to send your kids to public school, you won't be so quick to give everything away.

Actually, today's immigrant is the present of nations like America that have low fertility and aging populations. Immigration is definitely desireable for such states. Legal Immigration.

The objection most often and loudly voiced is to Illegal Immigration, which is not desireable for any nation.

Im not against immingration of any kind, im against the kind that dont pay their own way when they go to a country. Why should these people get housing and benefits through tax money they havent earned when it could go to better things like wages for the hardworking nurses for example. Yes these other countries were built by immigrants and then they made it their own, whats wrong with people wanting to protect what they have and not see it ripped apart by those that just want to come over and take advantage of the benefits system? If they come over and have a job and can already support their families then by all means please be part of OUR society.

MOst people don't have a problem with immigration LEGAL immigration. Most people do have problems with people coming here when they can't even respect our soverignty. A nation with wide open borders for any and everyone to cross isn't really an independent state. No nation in the world does that. Not even Mexico. Did you realize that the border between Mexico and Guatemala is locked up tight. It seems Mexico doesn't want a lot of illegal aliens in their country either. I feel that we should seal the border with a wall and constant military/Border service patrol. Once that is accomplished we can then see about revising the work permit laws and allow more people to work and live in the US. Especially since large sectors of the economy depend on immigrant labor. If we don't seal the border first everything else is just a farce. But most people aren't against immigraton, just illegal immigration.
