The dog needs to go for walks as well as play for exercise, just get that straight.
Now..i have an old English sheepdog which is loyal, big, playful but not so energetic. He is lovely! They are real nice dogs but a menise when they are pups so maybe not. I would suggest visiting a kennel or dogs trust near you before seeing any other places, just incase theres a dog there. They do have puppies too so PLEASE look there first. If not here are some breeds that match your wants:
Alsation/German Shepard
Syberian Husky
Welsh Terrier (this is a big dog not small)
Retriver
Labrador
Mungrel
Dalmation
There are loads more. Alsations, retrievers and labradors seem to match your wants the best. Look in the kennels for one first Please, they might even have pups of them. Mungrels arent bad either, infact they are sometimes mroe affectionate. Dalmations are also good but usually hyper.
Good Luck

Boxers meet your specifics, they NEED to be inside dogs due to their short coat they can't handle extreem temperatures, they are very loyal and energetic.
However they do require a lot of exercise and training to make sure their energy is focused in the right direction and they don't become destructive. They are very intelegent and very trainable and just a joy to be around. You can find more information here : http://www.americanboxerclub.org/
If you do go with a pure bred please research the health of the lines and get it from a responsible breeder, Not a back yard breeder or Puppy Mill or Pet Store.
Rescues are great too, and you can meet the dog as an adult and see just what kind of personality they have. Potty training can be a lot easier with a rescue as well.

Big dogs need room to run. Exercise is running and walking your dog, not playing inside. Pets are like plants in a way and, like plants, you need to get pets that fit your home environment. Do you have a big yard or lots of land? Keeping a big animal inside will only depress the pet. Talk to a vet or animal shelter before you make that decision. How would you feel cooped up in the house all the time?: Think about it. Ever been grounded? Sucks right?

If you're looking for a inside dog and only going to exercise it through playing, don't get a big dog and ESPECIALLY not a Siberian Husky. Huskies need yards, exercise daily outside the yard and someone with them most of the time.

Golden retriever or a German shepherd are great larger dogs. They both can be kept in a smaller area, but will need exercise daily. You can take them for walks and or play with them in the park. They both are very loyal and playful loving dogs that will protect you in a pinch and also love you forever. In making a decision between the two, I personally love the German Shepherd. I have one and he is my best buddy and protector, he would die for me and not even flinch thinking about it. Good luck and always treat your dog with love and respect and they will do the same for you.

If you want a husky then you must have a yard to let them run in they are a very loyal dog and are great with kids and people and they do not bark much. But they need to get exercise. they must be able to run but they also love to play and they are very smart and can be trained to do almost anything they love water and will lay ion the pool if you let them. They also like allot of attention. so if you decide to get a husky be prepared to get trained yourself

German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Doberman Pinscher, Any of the Labrador family or the retriever family all would make a good inside family dog. I've had all 3 and they make wonderful dogs if trained and treated properly

It would be nice of you to go to the shelter and adopt a pet there, you could be saving a life of a beautiful dog. Sometimes have a pure breed can have its pitfalls. Have a heart and adopt one, you never know you might end up getting a husky after all.

Airedale Terrier. The best dog I ever had. It so smart it can be trained to do anything. It's strong and playful. It can be a guard dog and it can be just a pet.
The only "problem" it's fur needs a lot of care.
