i'm a 17 year old girl (i'm white), i'm 5'1 & weigh 92 lbs & am a 32A. my BMI is 17.2 (the lowest # that is still "safe" for my age), and my body fat percent is 16.4% (checked this online, don't know if it's correct)
i've been skinny all my life, i'm just made tiny. i'm also pretty active, i've been a dancer since i was 7 and i'm a black belt in TaeKwonDo. so i'm pretty fit. but i hate that i have virtually NO fat on my body at all :(
many many times i've tried to bulk up & gain weight. i've tried eating double what i usually do & drinking protein shakes & eat power bars. i always end up giving up because i never see results, even after months, and i get tired of eating so much.
is it possible that later in life (like early 20s or something) my metabolism might change to allow me to gain weight easier? it seems like it's impossible for me to gain any weight right now, will this change later on? or will i always be so freaking little? lol
serious & helpful answers only please

I'm actually in about the same boat as you. I've had a high metabolism all my life and have always been thin because of it. I'm 27 now, and I'm still just as skinny as ever (although my BMI is less than yours.... which is normal and healthier for men to have lower than women).
Your metabolism will slow down over time, but there's not really a safe way to force it to slow down.
If you try to lower your metabolism (which means not working out at all, eating foods that are fattening, etc), it'll be much less healthy for you and could cause damage to your body.
I can personally guarantee that you will have a LOT of people jealous of you (especially any woman that has a low metabolism), especially as you get older. It's not a bad thing unless you see it as a bad thing. Use what you have to whatever advantage you can make of it.
I'm also willing to bet that you had a lot more energy (and maybe grew in height) when you ate more, too.... I've had that experience every time I eat more.
Be proud of the metabolism you have and try to find ways that it's a good thing, and you'll feel much better about yourself and your metabolism.
Oh, and as a somewhat ironic side note, I'm actually starting up Tae Kwon Do myself ;-)

YES! I was the same way for a long time. I could eat anything & everything & still weighed 95 lbs. I'm 5' even. When I hit about 25 I gained between 5-10 lbs. & I looked really good. I'm almost 30 & have gained another 10 lbs. & I'm having trouble adjusting to eating differently & getting the weight off. It will change when you get older. Mine changed just like my dad's did, so you might talk to your parents about how they were when they were younger. Don't get into the habit of eating a lot. Its hard to change when you need to.

i used to wish to gain just a little bit of weight...i was at 125 for the longest time (i'm 5'9") & ate like there was no tomorrow & never gained an ounce...then i found out i have celiac disease & my body doesn't process wheat the way others do...i'm not saying that's why you remain slender though, just sharing my experience...
being petite doesn't sound so bad to me...but then again i have problems finding clothes that fit due to my height...
it sounds like you're pretty active so your metabolism is probably higher than someone that isn't so active. that's not a bad thing...
do you feel healthy? do your doctors express any concerns about your weight?
if you're healthy & the dr is ok with your weight, please try to be more accepting of a healthy body that is uniquely yours

i dont understand why u put ur white because i really dont see how ur race applies 2 ur question or what ypu're trying 2 imply but w/e. anyways if u keep eating double like u say u do, its gonna catch up to u later in life and u might end up being bigger than u wanted so i wouldnt suggest that. just keep eating healthy and be active it doesnt matter how skinny u look, it only matters what you eat and just remember that the most important thing is to eat healthy and exercise. but a straight answer to your question is yes, your metabolism might change in the future, but i dont think it will change any time soon since you're very active and right now your metabolism will be very high making it hard for your body to store fat. so its up to you to decide if you really want to give up sports just for a little while to be bigger... good luck

I had the same problem as you when I was young. I only recently found out that I had Celiac Disease, which prevented me from gaining weight. As soon as I was diagnosed and changed my diet I gained weight normally. Next time you see your doctor, ask him to test you for Celiac Disease. I could have saved myself alot of grief if I had done it when I was your age. Good Luck

Most people metabolisms slow down as they get older, your 30's maybe. My grandmother was 4'10" and under 100 lbs her whole life even after four children.

Try eating some bread or cake, especially cake. Eat big meals just before going to bed at night. Calories burn the slowest during that time.
