My crystal ball says 82 degrees with comfortable, low humidity. I'm sure it's right. The crystal ball used to fog up on me, but I fixed it.

i lived in nyc for 35 years, grew up on long island (which is adjacent) and currently live in the hudson valley, which is about 100 miles north. i'm down in the city frequently, still.
you're coming the day after labor day? well, count on it being pretty much summer weather, and it's a hot summer this year.
if you have a lightweight blazer/jacket, then you can probably manage it, if you feel you have to. august in new york is generally like being in a sauna, but not cedar scented, without the nice cold tub to dive into. however many clothes you think you'll need, i'd suggest bringing more. it's likely to still be hot and humid enough that you'll want to shower and change before you go out in the evening. and, you'll shower again when you get in at night. you'll certainly want a couple of extra shirts (and/or get the ones you bring done at a cleaners, since they will wilt. be aware that while the subways and busses are technically air conditioned, you probably won't be able to tell, and, the subway stations aren't, at all - so you're likely to feel soaked in sweat and dehydrated by the time you get to where you're going. nights can cool down, but, they don't always, sorry, i wish i could give you an accurate prediction. if the worse comes to worst you can always carry your blazer. enjoy!!!

It is really warm in September, in the beginning but then it gets cooler and cooler. About like 70-80 degrees.

It can be very warm, but less humid than the summer months. And it can be chilly in the evening, so a sweater or blazer and even a turtleneck can be warranted (haha, it depends, which isn't much help!)

Count on warm to hot and some humidity. if you want to wear a blazer make it a dark linen.
And welcome to the city
