I have a cavalier king charles spaniel, they are brilliant. They are the most wonderful dogs. Please consider one of these. They are lovely dogs. Yes, like all dogs they have health problems but they can be easily controlled. I love my cavaler, she is so easy to train and loves people. Anyone can come in and she will go and give thema cuddle Please cnsider a cavalier king charles spaniel! By the way springers need more exercise and are quite large when older. They can get as big as a lab. Cockers though bark more and they can get rather fast if not careful. I would not advise either of these really, but the cocker is a lovely dog. Please do not consider the springer because it can grow quite large. Please consider the cavalier king charles spaniel and the cocker. They are both lovely dogs.
Good luck! I changed my mind so many times before deciding on this lovely breed, the cavalier king charles spaniel. I am so glad i did. I am truly besotted with this breed of dog, they are really the breed of kings! Good luck and i hope you find that special companion soon! Please stick with the spaniels, my puppies ears are so cute and everyone fiddles with them! xxx

We've had both and I would describe the difference between them as the Cocker was an introvert, and Springer an extrovert. The Cocker sometimes indicated that he would like a quiet life at the moment, thank you; the Springer was the equivalent of a boy-racer/head banger!

There's plenty of differences. You should get on the internet and research both English and Welsh springers as well as American and English cocker spaniels. You'll find out the differences in looks, temperament, exercise requirements, grooming requirements and health problems. Then you can make a really informed decision as to which one is right for your energy level and life style.

how about researching the ENGLISH Cocker Spaniel! That just might be the one! Seriously.

And I don't have one.....but have known some, as well as American Cockers and Springers.

A springer spaniel is incredibly lively, needs loads of walks and attention, tends to be bit naughty, cockers not so mad. My daughter has two springers, the female just had pups, crossed with cocker, she had 14pups, 12 survived delivery, all doing really well, 4 weeks old now! They are called sprockers! Shes selling them, making quite a lot of profit. They are gorgeous!

cocker spaniels are smaller than springers but both are VERY energetic and need LOTS of exercise. They are gun dogs (working dogs) and will therefore want to be in water, fetching things a lot. If you want a smaller one, go for the cocker, but be preapred to do LOTS AND LOTS of walking, or put up with chewed carpets, floors, etc due to boredom. NOT a breed to get if you work .

The difference is that present day Cockers are so inbred and show bred that they're worthless, mindless creatures. The Springers haven't been overbred for some reason and, on the average, are a much more intelligent and companionable creature. When I was a boy Cockers were a great breed and still good hunting dogs. The dog show breeders ruined them. I haven't seen a cocker in the last 30 years that had a lick of native intelligence.

you need to look at the Kennel club site, it tells you breed specifics and tells you what exercise, diet and room your dog will need.
Both are extremely active dogs and both will live happily in a small house BUT you will need to spend alot of time training, walking, teaching your dogs because they can be VERY destructive, dominant and often aggresive. Most springers never grow up!!
If you work full time then these breeds are not for you, nor any breed for that matter, if you are not a active person, this breed is not for you, if you like easily trainable quiet dogs, this breed is not for you.
However if you have lots of time and are active and going to be about ALOT you will find a happy partnership in spaniels.
Both breeds need good grooming too due to the long coat and ears (grass seeds are a real hazard)
Hope this helps

Both Cockers and Springer are over bred and suffer from many medical problems. They are both also known for being fear biters. They are not very intelligent. Especially the Cocker spaniel. Cockers are very stubborn and can be very difficult to potty train as they tend the urinate and poop themselves when they get nervous or excited. Both breeds are a nervous dog. You might want to look into getting a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are half the size of the Cocker Weighing 13 to 18 lbs. They are best described as being miniature Golden retrievers. They don't need a big yard. They are the friendliest of all the toy breeds .They are highly intelligent making them extremely easy to train. They are called the Ultimate lap dog. They get along well with all different kinds of animals big and small. they love children. They make great therapy dogs because of their perfect sweet nature. They are naturally well mannered so they don't need to much training. The Cavalier is in that new movie "Underdog" that plays "Purebred Polly"
