With an average speed of 197.802, and won by Bill Elliott, the 1987 Busch Clash at Daytona stands as the fastest sanctioned race in the history of NASCAR (though it was not an official points-paying event).

The fastest NASCAR race was the Winston Select 500, now known as the Aaron's 499, held on May 10, 1997 at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama.
The 500 mile race had no caution flags (guess Ricky Bobby was not driving) and as a result Mark Martin took the checkered flag with the fastest average speed of any NASCAR race.

I guess I don't understand the question. I'm gone until Monday!!! I'll check back for the right answer!! later everyone!!!
